Chapter #3

Searching for Info

    by: Unknown
“I’m sorry.” Holly lowered her gaze sadly. “I tried to follow her, but I have no idea where she went. I couldn’t find out anything.”

“Hey, it’s alright.” Jet soothed her best friend, rubbing her shoulder. “We’ll just scour around for a bit of information. Someone has to know something, right?”

“Okay.” Holly sniffled, smiling. The two adventurers returned to the main area of the village, and began asking around for information about Clara’s whereabouts. It was a long, slow process, and no one seemed to know anything. Eventually, they decided to split up so that they could cover more ground.

Jet watched Holly walk down the main street, until she eventually disappeared from view. Jet was normally a calm and confident girl, but she couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of dread being out in the village by herself. That damn mirror had cursed her with horrible luck, and to make matters worse, her body was still squishy from the Rubberfy spell. Any number of horrible things could happen.

Jet glanced around, taking a few extremely cautious steps as she examined the village. The village was quite big, almost like a large town. There were quite a few people walking the streets, going about their daily lives. There were also a lot of different buildings, serving various purposes.

As Jet was walking, she ended up down a small side alley by complete accident. In the alley, she slipped on a puddle of mud, falling down onto her back. As she fell, she grabbed for something to steady herself, instead toppling over precariously positioned tower of crates. The crates fell right on top of Jet’s collapsed body, squashing her flat in an instant. She hadn’t even had a second to scream.

The loud commotion of Jet’s fall and the boxes tumbling down did not go unnoticed. A wooden door leading into the alley swung open, and a girl walked out. She grumbled under her breath upon seeing the fallen boxes, and begrudgingly went to work stacking them again. Jet was thankful for the weight being lifted off of her, but totally unprepared for what happened next.

As the girl lifted the boxes, Jet’s flat body was blown by a gust of wind, and her paper-thin was carried a few feet to the left. She landed on the step right outside of the wooden door that the girl had walked out from. Jet stared up in horror as the girl finished stacking the boxes and walked back to the door. She towered above Jet like a goddess.

Jet tried to scream, though her squished, crushed lungs could make no sound. Without looking down, the girl stepped onto Jet’s body, one foot on her face, and the other on her waist. Oblivious to what lie under her, the girl scrapped her mud-covered boots all across Jet’s body, using her as nothing more than a floor mat.

Jet mentally cried out in pain as the girl carelessly dragged her boots back and forth across Jet’s crushed body, merciless and painfully. Each time she ground her feet across Jet, Jet’s clothes began to tear and rip. By the time the girl had satisfactorily cleaned her boots, Jet’s attire had been torn to shreds. Blissfully unaware of what she had just done, the girl opened the door and headed back inside.

Jet was left in an incredible amount of pain, and it took her almost ten full minutes to reform back to her normal human shape. Blushing furiously at her nakedness, she wiped the mud off of her body. Creeping to the edge of the alley, she glanced left and right. Now, more than anything else, she needed to get some spare clothes, and also find Holly. Her mission to gather information and gone horribly wrong.

To her left, Jet spotted a building that surprised her greatly. It was a brothel. Most villages didn’t have one. Out front, two scantily clad girls waved and cheered to passing villagers, enticing them to come inside. Just barely, Jet could spot a back door into the brothel, which was propped open. Jet knew that, if nothing bad happened, she could sneak inside unnoticed. There would surely be something outfit to find in there. Anything was better than being naked.

To her right, Jet saw the village’s public bathhouse. The baths were indoors, contained within a large building. Seeing two women walking inside the bathhouse carrying bags, Jet assumed that it was the women’s time to use the bath. That was another option for her, as Jet took note of the open window near the rear of the building. She could slip in without being spotted, steal some clothes, and leave.

Of course, Jet knew that her cursed luck had the potential to make everything horrible. Her squishy body didn’t help either. Both a brothel and a bathhouse were terrible places to be when the slightest accident could lead to a terrible predicament, but Jet didn’t really have any other choices. The alley behind her was a dead end, and too tall to climb. Going anywhere other than the brothel and the bathhouse would lead to huge groups of people, something Jet desperately wanted to avoid.

Breathing deeply, Jet took a moment to calm herself. She then began stealthily sneaking towards her chosen location, hoping that nothing bad happened.
