You kept low to the ground as you sniffed up your parents' scent. Meanwhile, you kept an ear out for the niidoqueen from earlier. You felt a lot more confident as long as she was nearby. After sniffing for a while, the scenery began to change. Ahead of you, you saw the mouth of a cave. The inside was really dark, and you were worried about what was in there.
"Why would they go in here for some berries?" the nidoqueen said.
"I don't know, but I definitely smell them down there," you said. You ushered the nidoqueen forward.
"There are lots of dangerous Pokémon in there, do you really want to go in?" the nidoqueen said. You paused to think. You looked forward, and couldn't even imagine what would be in there. Part of that was your lack of knowledge on the outside world, and part of that was the darkness. Any sort of monster could be hunting down there. However, deep down you knew you needed to find your parents. They could be in danger, or fighting some Pokémon, or who knows what. All you know is, the only way to find them I through here.
"I'm sure," you said, nodding your head. The nidoqueen said nothing, but picked you up. She held you against her chest, and walked forward.
"Just tell me where to go," the nidoqueen said. You kept sniffing the air, and pointed in the direction you smelled their scent. The nidoqueen followed your instructions. The cave was awfully dark, but your vision was slowly adjusting. Past the darkness, you saw that the walls were simple stone. You heard the sound of water dripping echoing throughout the cavern. In addition, you heard the occasional scamper of some unseen Pokémon echoing along the cave walls. You could swear some of the scampering sounded like stone clashing against stone.
You kept sniffing out your parents' scent, and kept directing the nidoqueen down the cave, rounding particular corners. As she walked, two thoughts crossed your mind. Were your parents safe when they came this way, or were they forced down here? Why would they go down here, and what could possibly be taking them this way? Your second thought was about how neither of you encountered a single Pokémon yet. You definitely heard them, were they just that scared of the nidoqueen?
Neither of you were sure how long you were traveling the cave, nor were you sure about how long the cave was. The silence worried you. You know there was something in the darkness, but you had no idea what. Could they be more powerful than the nidoqueen? Surely not, she was so big after all. But what if someone was bigger? How much bigger could this cave house? Who's to say it doesn't get bigger the further along your parents' trail you got? Did they even leave the cave?
As your fear increased, you snuggled deeper into the nidoqueen's chest, who seemed to hold you closer to her. She may've been your sole saving grace here. You'd probably be paralyzed with fear in the tall grass without her. You nuzzled against her arm in response, trying to calm down. You didn't even realize your breathing increased until you began to calm down. You hugged the nidoqueen's arm tighter, sighing contently.
You kept sniffing, but eventually, you heard the ground under the nidoqueen creak. With each step, the floor creaked more. Then, in a split second, you felt like all the supports under her gave away as you were suddenly thrust in a free fall. In that split second, the nidoqueen tossed you forward, away from the pit. You turned back, and looked on in horror as she disappeared into a newly formed pit under her. You ran to the edge and looked down. All you could see was sheer darkness.
"Ma'am!" you cried into the pit. You waited for any word from her down there.
"I'm ok!" you heard from down there. You sighed in relief, a few tears dripping from your eyes. "I'm gonna try to find some way out of here. Just, please stay put!"
"I will!" you shouted back. You then decided to sit down. You couldn't even tell where the nidoqueen was, much less if she did find a way out of there. However, there wasn't much you could do. As you wondered about her progress, you heard something near you. It sounded like something walking around the cave. They sounded too close for your liking. You tried to turn to the source of it, but it was still too dark. Eventually, the movement got close. You turned to the source, and you could begin to see the outline of something.
It was... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
