When you and mom arrived at Cauldron Academy, Joe was being treated for minor injuries due to his fall from the eight foot wall after his crash. He was blushing brightly, no doubt from the attention he was getting. With him was your grandmother and head witch, Ella Mist. Joe's glum expression turned to depression upon seeing mom approach with a cross look on her face. You were not very impressed either but you nor mom were really mad at Joe. Your anger was with dad.
"Your son managed to build his mechanical broomstick out of obsolete gadgetry." Bemused, Ella said. "I must say it was an impressive build since no witch had ever managed to build a broomstick out of magical artifacts."
"That's because its foolish and dangerous." Eying Joe, mom said. "Just wait until I get a hold of your father! He should know better than to keep his artifacts locked up!"
Joe winced. "Actually, I made in a lab dad gave me." Timidly, he admitted. "I wanted to tell you but dad said to let him worry about you."
Mom turned red, becoming even angrier. "He WHAT?!" Furious, she demanded.
"Neither Joe's spark or flame has ignited yet." Frowning, Ella said. "Joe did this all through his dormant magical power using mad science equipment and artifacts."
"That's even worse!" Her rage climbing, mom screamed. "That means his father was experimenting on him to see what he can do given the tools of mad science!" She fumed, becoming angrier. "I might as well let him stroll around in my potion closet and tell him its a spice rack!"
Joe whimpered, holding his arms up as if to protect himself. "I didn't do anything wrong... I just wanted to find Gina..."
"Easy, Mona." Scolding, Ella whispered. "Your son is still unaware, you are terrifying him with your rant."
Mom sighed, turning to you. "Get him into the car." Sternly, she said. "We will deal with this at home." She then more softly added, "He is a victim of your father's obsession to experiment; treat him as such."
You nodded then gently helped Joe to his feet before walking him to the car. "It's going to be okay, Joe." Soothingly, you said. "We'll have a nice long talk about this at home."
Joe was shaking and whimpering at this point causing you to wince. "You poor kid." Shaking your head, you thought. "I can only imagine how scared and confused you are right now."
