Unknown to you, the only reason the dragon couple adopted you was because they sensed you were one of very few humans with the potential to become a monster upon hitting puberty. Your grandmother was a dragon who had fallen in love with a powerful human male, hence you did not find it weird to have a dragon mom and dad. To your grandmother's grief, gave birth to a 'normal' human girl, your real mother. However, this girl was strong and managed to live to give birth to you before she and her husband her eaten alive and the dragon couple became your new parents...
"Don't worry, Regina." said your mom quietly. "You will have your scales when you get older."
"But I want my scales now." you whined. "Everyone at school is starting to tease me, calling me a late bloomer!"
Just then, you felt a tinge of pain in your side. You lifted your shirt to look and let out a squeal of delight. "A scale!" you screamed, turning to mom. "It's starting!"
Duriana looked at the small scale, protruding out of your skin and smiled as a second one appeared right next to it, causing you to wince. "Yes, it's starting, dear." she told you. "But that means you are going to have to miss school for the day."
"How come!?" you asked, whining again. "I want to show my friends that I'm changing, just like I said I would!"
Mom did not answer at first, she was concerned that the other monsters would see you as an abnormality and try to devour you before you could fully transform. "It's starting much earlier that we had expected." she thought. "This could be very bad, especially if this turns out to only be a partial transformation."
"This is a very delicate phase in your life, sweetie." she told you. "You are staying home for a while but for now, we you are going..."
