Chapter #5

Glesheri, happily married to a Human

The sun was rising above the vast forest of Pyknos Verge. The light permeated through the branches of the trees and lighted up the Verge, which began to take life. The birds began singing different melodies, and some villagers left their huts to work in the gardens or to go about their daily lives. After not even an hour more elves spread into the village, and the natural sounds of the area reached every corner of the Verge.

After more than two hours since the sun brought light to the Verge, in a house on the outskirts, Glesheri opened her eyes and came out from under the blankets. Her long fawn-brown hair was all messy and covered her face. She stretched her skinny arms while making a big yawn and got up from bed. She was very tired from the night before, spent cuddling with Nessar, her new husband, whom she married secretly only a week ago.

She removed the hair from her face and washed it with the water in a basin. That was really necessary to help her wake up in the mornings...and realize that her willowy body was completely naked...

She rushed to the wardrobe (She thought she remembered that word right. Human devices and such were hard to remember sometimes.) and picked an emerald-colored dress with long and large sleeves and a gown that reached her ankles, she tied the ribbon around her waist, as the dress was large, and put on a pair of loafers.

While Glesheri was combing her hair, Nessar was in the kitchen, preparing the breakfast.

Nessar was a young 25 year-old man with shoulder-length, black, messy hair and a little beard under his chin. Due to his lean build, he decided to become a scholar and one day he went to study the elves. He would have never thought that this decision ended up being so meaningful in his life. But there he was, living in a little house in the Verge with the Glesheri, the elf he had fallen in love with.

That morning he woke up earlier than usual (stupid cockatrice), so he had more time to check the vegetable garden, and boy, there was a lot to collect. They didn't have a large garden, but that day he could pick up half of the vegetables he planted, including all the potatoes. He collected enough stuff to fill two chests.

Nessar moved a lock of his black hair from his forehead wet by the steam of the stew he was preparing. After the smell of rosemary was strong enough, he decided it was ready and could serve it. That day, he decided to make a special dish for Glesheri. The stew itself wasn't anything special, just a broth with some potatoes, carrots minced meat and spices, but it meant a lot for the couple, as it was the first dish Nessar made for Glesheri. Until now, they had lived off of the stores that had been sent to him by the scholars who had sent him on his journey.

He put the stew in the bowl, but noticed a problem: he made a bit too much, and a single bowl was not enough.

"And now what should I do?" muttered Nessar, scratching his chin. He could've eaten some, but he already ate enough.

While he was thinking of the solution, Glesheri jumped in the kitchen.

"Hi, honey," said the elf, walking energically, with her long straight hair waving side to side at every step.

"Hi, dear," replied the man putting the bowl next to the chair, "look at what I made today?"

"Ooh, stew!" said Glesheri with a big smile. "Thank you! You know I how much I love it." She kissed her husband on the cheek and sat on the table, where she began eating the breakfast-lunch. It was delicious, the pork was especially good, and it was something the elves didn't eat very often.

"You should make human cuisine more often. It has something that elven food doesn't," commented Glesheri, putting another spoon in her mouth.

"I would, but the ingredients aren't so easy to get here," replied Nessar, watching with satisfaction how blissful Glesheri was in that moment. “My fellow scholars should be sending me a new shipment of supplies from Adinah fairly soon.”

Not long time after, the bowl was already empty.

"If you want, there's still more. I've accidentally made too much," said Nessar, pointing at the pot in the middle of the table.

“Oh, yes, thank you! I feel I could eat it forever," said Glesheri, handing the bowl to him for more.

Nessar served more and the elf began digging in. Since she met Nessar, Glesheri became more curious about the humans' customs, and there wasn't a day where she didn't ask him something about human life. It was sad that the others of her own kind didn't have the same interest she had.

"So...." said Nessar, scratching his neck, "do your parents know about us?"

"Not yet," answered Glesheri. Her parents were very strict about this. She remembered their reactions when she told them she met a human. She wondered what they might say now that she asked for Yva's blessing... still, she'd been missing for a week; they'd find out soon.

"Want to talk to them about it? I can come with you if you need support."

"Don't worry, I can handle it alone. Is there more?" asked Glesheri, looking inside the pot. There was still a little in the bottom.

----

Glesheri leaned back on the chair. She was full, maybe even more than full. But she couldn't resist. Nessar was an amazing cook, especially when he prepared meals using human ingredients, and was also very affectionate to her. This first week of marriage had been an amazing one, and she didn't bother about what the others might think; the two were happy.

Glesheri stood up. Her stomach was full and round at that moment, and felt heavy. Suddenly, Nessar hugged her from behind.

"So you've enjoyed the meal," commented the man, gently patting Gleshira's belly. It was round, full of his stew, a different sensation compared to her usually flat belly… and he liked it, probably because it brought memories of the women of Adinah, which were much curvier than the elves. Still, he loved her much more than any woman from his birthplace, and would've done anything to satisfy her, but if she had some more curves, maybe... Or perhaps there would come the day when there would be their future child in that belly.

His thoughts were interrupted by a kiss on the mouth, followed by, "I'm tired, I think I'm going to sleep."

“Already?” Nessar said with concern. “But, you just got up? Are you feeling well?”

She laughed. “I’m fine. Just eating a big meal like that made me a bit sleepy.”

So Glesheri left and went back to the bedroom. She collapsed on the mattress, with her long hair all around her. Glesheri closed the eyes, relaxed. She could use a little rest to digest all that stew.
