Chapter #3

Foolish Investigation

    by: Unknown
There was something that had been bothering you ever since your conversation with Jack Harper the previous day. You had had no idea his mother, Trish, had been missing for over a year. That sounded extremely serious, and so you wanted to do anything you could to help your boss. Not just because you wanted some kind of raise or promotion, but because you were a caring person who tried your hardest help everyone in need.

You headed to the factory, though you were able to convince one of the security guards to follow you around as you asked for information and help. The added presence of the security guard helped you to feel safe and secure amidst all of the dangerous machinery and hundreds of employees.

For the first few hours, you were barely able to get any information at all. Trish was Jack Harper’s mother. Trish was an incredibly sexy woman. Trish had disappeared one year ago. These were all things you knew. You were about to give up hope when you stumbled upon an employee named Gloria.

“Miss Harper? I remember her.” Gloria rubbed her chin. “In fact, I remember the last day I saw her.”

“WHAT?” You nearly screamed. “Why didn’t you tell Mister Harper?”

“I didn’t remember until recently. Do you want to hear or not?” Gloria huffed, and you calmed down. You gestured for her to continue.

“Go on.”

“Okay. She was walking around the factory, organizing some boxes and crates. Then, someone came up and told her that a special request was placed to have gummy material personally delivered. Since she wasn’t too busy, Trish saw to the delivery herself. She took a box of custom-made gummy material and left the factory.”

“Do you know where it was that she went?”

“Barely. I think the order was placed by…by a…someone rich. Last name…Courtney? Court…house. That’s it. Courthouse!” Gloria nodded to herself, pleased she had remembered the name. You gave her your thanks, said goodbye to the security guard, and left the factory.

Once in your car, you entered the name “Courthouse” into your phone, and found an address. You raced off to the place where the address directed you to, not even stopping to think of one simple question: If Trish disappeared for a year after going to this house, what made her disappear?

The house in question turned out to be a humongous, sprawling mansion, larger than any you had ever seen. It was beautiful, but there was also something haunting about it. A polite doorman let you park your car out front, and then led you into the house.

“Hello ma’am.” A cute maid bowed as you entered. “My mistress will see you in the art room.” You followed the maid through a twisting series of hallways and corridors, until you finally entered a large art gallery. Hundreds of priceless painting lined the walls. Gold statues guarded each entrance and exit.

In the middle of the room were two comfy chairs. One chair was occupied by a shiningly radiant woman, who oozed charm and innocence. She had long, beautiful blonde hair, and dazzlingly blue eyes. She was wearing a tight, full length dress that hugged her modest but still attractive curves. The dress was a mix of red and tan, forming an interesting and eye-catching combination.

“Good morning!” The woman waved cheerily. “Take a seat.” You walked in, feeling a slight tinge of panic, and sat down. “What can I do for you…miss…”

“Trinity. Trinity Wakeman.” You answered. “What’s your name?”

“Trinity.” The woman smiled, and there was something unsettling about her large grin. “That’s a beautiful name. My name is Elise Courthouse.”

“I’ve come to ask you about a woman named Trish Harper.” You began, and the Elise’s smile wavered. “She apparently was last seen heading to this mansion. Do you know anything about her?”

Elise paused for a moment, and then stuck out her hand, as if to offer a handshake. Feeling awkward, you reached to return the handshake, only for Elise to lash out and grip your arm roughly. She squeezed tightly, and your squishy arm was smushed flat in her iron grip. She let you go, and you sunk back into your seat in horror.

“Oh what irony this is. And to think, I thought today was going to be boring.” Elise laughed, a cold and heartless laugh. “Miss Harper did visit my mansion, one year ago. Imagine my surprise when I give her a hearty handshake, and her hand is flattened within my grip. Of course, I used to be quite…intimate…with her son, so I’m familiar with the whole gummy condition.”

“The box she had delivered contained some red gummy material I had specially ordered, and Trish herself kindly offered to be a bonus dose of tan gummy material. Once she was nice and squishy, I molded the two halves together, and formed this!” Elise stood up, and gestured to her beautiful dress. You screamed, connecting the dots. “This was supposed to be her son, but Miss Harper serves the purpose just as well.

“You monster!” You jumped to your feet and turned around, only to see two maids blocking the door.

“You can’t leave now dear Trinity.” Elise purred. “You know too much. Besides, my mind is already RACING with ideas. I’m getting rather excited.”

You saw that the situation was quickly spiraling out of control. You had to escape this crazy woman before she did something terrible to you. Your children were counting on you to be there for them. However, what choices were even open to you.
