As Josh was on his way home, the rain intenisfied to the point where he could hardly see more than 20 feet ahead. Many people were running around trying to get to where they needed to be before the rain got worse. Cars were sliding around on the road, it looked like a dangerous time to drive. Josh realized that it might have been better if he didn't take the school bus. He started to run a few times, not wanting to be caught in bad weather. This plan came to no avail however, as he slipped and almost fell flat on his face a couple of times before deciding to take it slow and easy. A truck drove by a giant puddle, and Josh was the victim of the wet and muddy splash. Soaking wet and cold, Josh hurried home with the protection of his umbrella. Luckily for him, Josh found a note on the kitchen table when he walked in. It was from his mom reading that she went to go pick up Bri from elementary school, while Courtney stayed after school for some math tutoring. This bought him some time so his mom wouldn't catch him walking around the house in his current state, nor would his sisters witness to snitch later.
Seeing as he was soaked, cold, and muddy, Josh decided it would be best if he took a shower now. It was Friday, and he wasn't planning on leaving the house anyway. He took a quick ten minute shower, not wanting his mom or sisters to walk in and ask questions he rinsed off, shampooed, and washed his body as quickly as possible. As he went along he thought about several things, such as his first move once he got out of the shower, what he would do over the weekend, remembering to get his paper to Mr. Jackson by Monday, and picturing him and Jenn as more than friends. It wasn't any weirder than his typical shower. He eventually turned the water off, ready to hop out of the shower. He was about to reach out for his towel, but he slippedon the floor! The last thing Josh remembered was his head hitting what he thought was the shower drain after his hard fall. Then he blacked out.
While he was unconscious, Josh had what he guessed was some type of dream. He saw his room around him and thought he awoke in his bed, but he was in a ghost form floating upward. He was eventually was out in the rainy weather again, but couldn't feel the rain whatsoever. He floated up to where he was then above the dark clouds. And all he could see was sunshine with nothing else but the sun and blue skies above his head before his long rise upward ceased.
"Where am I?" Josh asked. "Am I dead?"
"NO YOU ARE NOT!" A loud booming voice suddenly roared, startling the ghostly boy. The voice reminded Josh of his late father's, but much deeper.
"Who are you?" Josh asked nervously.
"THAT IS NOT IMPORTANT! WHAT YOU ARE HEAR FOR IS!"
"Why am I here?"
"I HAVE CHOSEN YOU AT RANDOM TO BE GIVEN A NEW POWER!"
This booming statement seemed to pique Josh's interest. "And, what is this new 'power'?
"THE ULTIMATE POWER OF EMPATHY!"
"The ultimate power of empathy?"
"YES! YOU MAY EXPERIENCE HOW YOUR FELLOW HUMANS LIVE WITH CONSENT!"
"Which means..." Josh trailed off, hoping for a more clear answer.
"YOU MAY SWITCH INDIVIDUAL ATTRIBUTES WITH OTHERS WITH AN AGREEMENT OR THEIR PERMISSION!"
Before, Josh could ask any more questions, he felt himself fall back down. Only now, he was human again dropping at an alarming rate. He was about to collide with the roof of his house. But the dream suddenly ended, and he opened his eyes. He looked over to his clock, with read 8:30 AM. Josh knew he hopped in the shower before 3:30 PM. It must have been Saturday now! "Did really sleep for 18 hours?" Josh thought, rubbing his head, still hurting where he bumped his head on the shower drain. He remembered the strange dream from when he slept, but didn't think anything of it, as he didn't think it actually happened nor did he really understand it. If the voice meant what Josh thought it did, then he definitely must have been dreaming. It was physically impossible to swap traits between two people. It was then he noticed that ______ was sitting there beside his bed, and they were just noticing his awakening. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
