Kris was shocked when she looked around. There in the car was Hana's mother with behind her Hana sitting. Hana looked uncomfortable at the reunion with her old friend which was something her mother didn't seem to notice. She waved Kris over and with no place to hide Kris was forced to approach the car as Hana's mother lowered the passage window.
"Hey Kris, long time not seen." Hana's mother said as cheerful as usual. Hana's mother didn't change after all this time. She still had the same spiky orange hair and freckles on her face like her daughter did.
"Likewise." Kris said a bit nervous seeing this figure from her past.
"Are you on your way to school?" Hana's mother asked. Kris nodded and explained that she was about to walk to school. Hana's mother shook her head. "You girls and your weight fright. You're the same as Hana, always caring about her figure. Right Hana?" Hana's mother looked back in the car. Hana nodded her head a little before looking away. "Don't be so shy Hana, it's Kris." Hana's mother said confused by her daughter's reaction. "How about I drive you to school? We need to go that way anyway." Hana's mother suggested. Kris and Hana were both confused at this offer. Kris looked at Hana and saw her looking away again.
"Thanks, but you don't have to. It's not that far." Kris objected but Hana's mother shook her head. "No way, I can't let a girl like you do that. You'd fall down before you reach school. Just come on in." Hana's mother once more offered.
Kris liked the idea of not having to walk any further to school, but the idea of her and Hana inside the same car was awkward. But the fact remained that Hana's mother wouldn't hear otherwise and Kris knew that Hana's mother would pull her inside the car if she refused her offer again. Kris wanted to open the front passage door but Hana's mother pointed to the back door. "I'm sure Hana doesn't mind you sitting next to her, you have lots to talk about."
And with that Kris was forced to sit in the back of the car. Opening the car she squeezed her way inside, sitting next to a quiet Hana. When they got off, things stayed quiet. Hana's mother looked in the rear view mirror and started to ask Kris about school. Kris told her things were fine. "Great to hear, things are going good with Hana as well. Isn't that right Hana?"
"Mom." Hana said her first words since their meeting. She was clearly not enjoying things how they went.
"Of course, it was getting used to at first but things are going fine." Hana's mother said.
"So which school do you go to now?" Kris asked out of politeness.
"An all-girl school." Hana grumbled. "And we all have to wear this uniform." Hana said pointing to her clothes. Kris noticed for the first time the way Hana was dressed. She wore a gray skirt with a white blouse. A very basic uniform though Kris couldn't help but admire the way Hana looked like.
"There is nothing wrong with some formality Hana." Hana's mother said clearly not agreeing with her daughter. "Besides, if everyone looks the same way than nobody gets left out."
Or laughed at. Kris thought. It probably had to do with the bullying. The rest of the drive was eerie with little said. Luckily they weren't far from Hana's former school. Kris was never as happy to see school.
"Thanks for the ride." Kris said as she grabbed her bag and opened the door.
"You're welcome, and say hello to your parents from me." Hana's mother said with a joyful smile.
"Wait, you dropped your phone." Hana pointed out as she held Kris her phone in her hands. Kris grabbed it from her trying to smile at her. To her surprise Hana gave her a wink. Kris thanked Hana's mother again and shut the door of the car as they drove off again.
Kris thought it odd that she suddenly met her former best friend like this. Was this fate binding them together? Was she meant to use the body switching spell on Hana? Kris shook her head. That would be crazy to do something like that. And besides she didn't have any way to contact Hana again. Kris then snapped out of her thought as she was still holding out her phone. Weird thing was that Kris didn't remember losing her phone. Kris switched her phone on and it opened up in the notes section of her phone. There was an unfamiliar note and as Kris opened it up there was only one line: Want to meet up again. Have so much to talk about. Call me : ) And underneath that sentence was Hana's new cellphone number (she switched numbers after she switched schools). Kris wondered if this was perhaps a sign.
