You kept sneaking forward and came up to the reptile house. The building looked old and forlorn even before the aliens showed up. Now that the zoo was almost completely abandoned it looked even more out of use. You figure it would be perfect for a hideout. Whatever animals lived in there probably all escaped already. You open the double doors and immediately the atmosphere stops you in your tracks. The air was very musty, like no janitor had dusted the place for ten years. Secondly the interior was surprisingly warm. And this was just the entryway. On the walls were informative posters about reptiles and snakes and ahead was a second set of double doors leading to the enclosures. You carefully pushed them open and walked in. The strange smells in the air tripled in strength and the heat was overbearing. All the lights and heat lamps were evidently still on. More curiously was what had happened to the enclosures. The thick glass panes that would separate the animals from the guests had all been removed. Not broken, but simply gone. There wasn't a splinter of glass on the floor. Sweat began to form on your brow as you pressed on, looking for food and shelter.
From one of the largest enclosures a pair of eyes peered at you. You looked around for a door leading to wherever the zookeepers kept their stuff. You were feeling uneasy about the situation. Your initial thoughts of shelter wavered. Not only was this place too hot for you, there was something... off about it. You couldn't put your finger on it precisely, but there was something in the air. It made you shiver a little. The odd smell began to get up your nose. It was probably just one of the plants.
