Amanda and Kathy were a pair of pretty, snotty rich girls. They were friends with each other more or less on the basis that nobody else in class could possibly come up to their standards.
Oddly enough, they did get along with Summer well enough; Summer saw them as generally harmless, as they were constantly either dragging their feet, idling their time and complaining about how boring everything in the world was; or they were out to town on a shopping spree.
Sure enough, when Summer found them they were in the middle of yet another boredom-fueled tantrum.
Apparently, Kathy's family's housekeeper did not put her hairpins on the left side of the dressing table like she specifically told her to.
Therefore it remained Amanda's job to open the door for the teen detective.
"Oh, hey Summer." Amanda said and suppressed a yawn, while in the background Kathy argued with the universe in general.
"Well as you can see, everything sucks, so we were trying to think of something to kill the afternoon. We considered heading out to the fair...Gotta be better than THIS dump. You wanna come?"
