"You're not going to go outside and play?" Joseph, or Joe for short, asked his son Avery one early summer day.
"Nope." Avery said, sitting on the floor, reclining against the couch. his hands resting on his rotund belly.
"Ok, I'll go fix you a snack." Joe smiled and went into the kitchen, his eyes lingering on his obese son. For you see, Avery had a medical condition which made him prone to weight gain. In fact, he had been steadily fattening up for two years now. Strangely enough, part of the condition was that no matter how fat Avery got, it had minimal effects on his health.
This was just fine by Joe. Joe already knew before Avery came into his life that he thought chubby kids were cute, although he had never thought about larger kids. So when Avery was chubby, he was cute. Then Avery was fat, and he was even cuter. Then Avery was obese, and he was adorable, and Joe was enamored with how adorable his son was.
