Chapter #6

MUST!" She failed to resist.

    by: Unknown
"...muuuuuuuuuuusst..." Dana salivated, any former kindness to her eyes shedding away as they defocused into the deep, dark hunger of the animal that lay in every man.

Staring into the pink, fleshy cavern waiting just beyond her beak, the very gruesome fate that all his friends and family begged him to avoid when he ventured off to get a job on the train, Nathan sniffed in one last breath of air, straightened out his bowtie, smoothed a few wrinkles from his suit, and shut his eyes, his head tilting down in resignation.

"...I'm sorry, Dana."

"Sorry fo-"

Using the pinched area of his suit as a fulcrum, Nathan swung backwards and threw his foot out to kick at the center of Dana's glasses, not hard enough to send them flying, of course, but with enough force to dislodge them from her beak and, most importantly, loosen her grip on his jacket just enough for him to pull himself free, enabling him to latch onto her wrist and run down her sleeve.

Dana earned herself yet another round of stares as any passenger on their floor of the car heard her emit a panicked screech, the obese roc punching at her own body and stumbling about as a squirrel-like lump burrowed abound underneath her suit. Nathan's head poked out of her other sleeve, but he ducked back in to escape getting crushed as Dana lumbered backward right into a chair, arms hooking around the armrest. Peeking back out, Nathan undid the buttons of her wrist cuffs as she furiously tried to grab him with both of her winged hands, only for him to button both her wrists together, leaving her trapped in the chair.

"I promise I don't blame you for any of this, Dana!" Nathan hurriedly called back as he crawled out and slid down the leg of the chair, running a track runner's speed away from Dana as she gave an infuriated squawk, her form hunched forward as she blindly stomped around with the weight of the chair on her back.

"Blast!" Came the disgruntled growl of the Jackal, and Nathan resisted the urge to flip her off in favor of unbuttoning his suit and throwing it behind, shedding as much of his bodily scent as he could.

.....

"...HELL no."

Surrounded by the grinding of numerous gears, winces, and machinery within the vestibule's access panel, the only space in reach that could distance him from anybody with a sense of smell, Nathan crossed Eva's name off a list filled with numerous others scratched out in red ink. Even if she was the type who'd believe his story, Eva wouldn't even need to see him to hunt her down, and with a nose like hers, he probably wouldn't even make it past the tender before she'd somehow end up pouncing on him.

Maybe Miss Carmine? He wondered, chewing at the butt of his pen. She hasn't got a nose or any nostrils, and she'd be more than happy to help me out...then again, it's not like it'd be easy to get all the way to the front of the train, and again, assuming Eva couldn't smell me from the cab...

With a grumble, Nathan tore the sheet from his pad and crumbled it into a ball, tossing it over his back to be chewed up by the machinery.

Then again, it is my best bet... He mentally noted, rising back on his feet to give a few stretches, cracking a few knots in his spine before unlatching the panel above, exposing himself to all the possible predators to give him chase. "If only there was a way to disguise my scent...but how? HOW?!"

A question he sincerely hoped would be answered by a dense shadow towering over his hideout, sparing them any doubt he was inside before he could shut it back...
