You and Dad are both standing on a homework assignment of Dani's when the girls come into the room. It has been crumpled--likely from being walked on by Dani--but you both felt that standing against a mostly white surface would help bring her attention to you two.
Dani walks past you and sits down on her bed. Her friends, Aliyah and Andrea, try to find somewhere to sit in the room. Andrea turns the desk chair around and sits on it, and Aliyah kicks some clothes away to make an empty space on the floor to sit. She sits down with her back against the wall and stretches out her legs, extending them towards you and Dad. The soles of her white canvas shoes are exposed to you, and her feet fidget back and forth as the girls talk.
"Should we try something else?" you ask Dad. "What if we get stepped on?"
At that moment, Aliyah curls one leg in and pulls off her shoe. She then outstretches the leg and does the same with her other leg. A few seconds later, her shoes have been placed beside her and she is relaxing with her legs stretched towards you two. Aliyah wears black no-show socks with red writing under her toes (presumably the brand name, but they've been worn enough to make the letters indiscernible). You and Dad gaze up at the soles of her socked feet, which fit tightly. You can see the outline of her toes in the socks, what seems about two stories above you. Her feet are also close enough to you that you can smell them. Warmth radiates from them, having walked several blocks to reach your house. Aliyah's feet have a mild scent like honey.
"Maybe we can get her attention," Dad replies.
"How should we do that?"
"I can think of a few ways," he says. "I'm just worried about her reacting in a way that gets us killed."
You look at Aliyah, who is laughing as she talks with Dani and Andrea. She stretches forward, grabbing her toes and bending her feet back. She then leans back against the wall, lost in conversation.
