Paul steps out of the car. "I saw a town a few miles back."
Ben says, "A town? That was barely even a store and the lights were off. Maybe it used to be a town but it looked like it was abandoned years ago."
Paul says, "Still, it might have better service than we have here. I say we go that direction to find out."
Rachel says, "I'll go too. We shouldn't have any of us go off alone. Besides, I'm hungry and all I found in the car was a breath mint."
Sarah still sits in the car. "Someone should stay here to protect the car from thieves."
Ben says, "Good idea. Sarah, you can stay here with the car."
Sarah asks, "Aren't you worried about your car?"
Jason says, "My so pathetic car? Not really. There's no traffic on this road. I doubt anyone will even be by to notice my car but one thing I would like us to do before we leave is push the car behind those bushes there so it's hidden. We won't be gone long, just long enough to make a phone call and we'll come right back."
Sarah gets out of the car, "Fine, if you're not worried about your car, neither am I."
Everyone except Sarah helps push the car behind some bushes. Then they walk back to the abandoned town. There is more than one building in that town but only one building is still standing. The other buildings are either piles of rubble or missing at least one wall. The one building looks like an abandoned antique store. They knock on the door and it falls off its hinges.
"Is anyone home?"
No answer. They test their phones and still can't make any phone calls. They go inside. Only the front of the building looks like an antique store. The back of the building looks like an old fashioned home. It even has an old fashioned pump and basin instead of a faucet and sink. Rachel doesn't find any food in the old fashioned ice-box but she finds some expired food in the cabinets.
The place is dusty but relatively clean as if someone had cleaned it a few months ago. Rachel says, "This is spooky. Why would someone come out here to clean but then leave all these valuable antiques in an unlocked building?"
Although they all wear coats but the rain had been so heavy that they feel a little wet, especially Paul and Sarah. Paul says, "I'm going to look for some clothes to borrow. Maybe they have a dryer we can borrow as well."
Ben and Jason wander to the basement where they find an old fashioned clothes wringer. Jason puts his hand on the rollers for no reason but his hand easily slips through. On the other side of the rollers, his hand is flat but he can still wiggle it. Ben sees and they both stare in shock. Jason pulls his hand back and his hand is normal again. He gets curious and tries again. He experiments with it and each time his hand goes in, it flattens but each time he pulls it out, it retuns to normal.
Jason tries putting his arm further in, all the way to his shoulders. His sleeve doesn't change at all even though his arm flattens within his sleeve. His sleeve just hangs loosely on his arm. Jason gets daring and sticks his head through. Then he keeps going slipping his entire body through clothes and all. His shoes won't go through so Jason bends to untie his shoes and discovers that being flattened makes him extremely flexible. Without his shoes, Jason comes out completely flat and stands up by bending his flat feet. His clothes hang very loose and he grabs his belt before his pants fall down.
