Ghost Eaters Incorporated started as so many small businesses do in the information age: with an ad of Craigslist. Piper posted the information with some information from Zack about how the whole "sin-eating" thing worked, and from there it was off the the races!
Well, not exactly. Dakota, Piper, and Zack got a lot of troll responses over the next week, people who thought it would be funny to mess with a company they saw a purely fraudulent. It was a rather frustrating time, and more than once Dakota wanted to call the whole thing quits. Piper, however, maintained faith that this new "business venture" would work out. Dakota wasn't sure if she'd come to believe in her new power or just didn't want to be proved wrong that starting a Sin Eating business was a good idea.
Eventually, though, they got their big break! On the edge of town, an old woman named Henrietta Flavorsham had been having trouble sleeping with the apparition of her decade-dead husband. Ghost Eaters Inc. headed over to her townhouse as soon as they could, and spent an afternoon in conversation with a positively delightful old lady. Even Piper had to admit that Mrs. Flavorsham was pretty cool.
But soon enough, night fell, and the Ghost Eaters went to work. Well, they stood around for a few hours, waiting to see if the ghost of Mr. Flavorsham showed himself. And he eventually did, at the stroke of midnight! Like the spirit in the lighthouse, Mr. Flavorsham had a heavy chain bound about his neck. Dakota had a better idea about what to do this time, and did not pass out after the ghost passed through her mouth (though it was a near thing). Like before, the ghost found himself unburdened of his regrets, and soon had passed on to whatever came afterward.
Mrs. Flavorsham awoke the next morning having slept better than she had in weeks, and rewarded the three with an absolutely colossal breakfast. They headed away from their first triumph as a sin-eating company triumphant and somewhat stuffed. It wasn't long before they started getting more exorcism jobs, word of mouth traveling through Daven's Port that Ghost Eaters Inc. was the real deal.
And soon, Dakota found herself in her bathroom, frowning at the scale. She'd noticed that her pants were starting to feel tighter lately, and a quick weigh-in had confirmed her fears. She was now 5 pounds heavier, and she had a pretty good idea about what the culprit was.
