This choice: He switches Jack with the Sarah Cereal. • Go Back...Chapter #5He switches Jack with the Sarah Cereal. by: Riter “Baby, I think I need to treat you out for some flies tonight!” Jack said, smothering Crunchy the frog with a sloppy, wet kiss.
“Whoa!” whispered Roy, trying his best not to burst out laughing at the bizarre weirdness he had created.
“I wonder...” mused Roy, eying first the 'Sarah Howard' cereal on the table and then his roommate Jack, presently making out with a gigantic, cartoonish amphibian.
“What're you mumbling about Roy?” asked Crunchy the Frog.
“Oh... nothing!” said Roy with a mischievous smile.
He quietly targeted Jack and then the box of Sarah Cereal.
Instantly, Jack disappeared and was replaced with Sarah Howard, still dressed in her conservative librarian clothes.
Roy looked down at the box and saw it had changed. The cereal box now had a happily smiling picture of Jack on the front and the logo had changed to read, “Jack Sutton.”
“What's wrong?” asked Sarah, pausing for a moment from kissing the strange frog creature still inhabiting the apartment kitchen. “You're not eating your Jack Sutton cereal, Roy. I thought you loved that stuff?”
“Uh... I'm just... trying to figure something out,” Roy mumbled.
He got up and went to the door that led out from his apartment into the communal corridor beyond. A small name plate just below the apartment number now identified the inhabitants of this apartment as “Sarah Howard and Roy Milford.” Apparently Crunchy the Frog now had Sarah's role – the romantic interest of Roy's roommate. And Roy's roommate was now Sarah Howard. Poor Jack had disappeared from reality completely. He was no longer a human being at all, but simply a brand-name of breakfast cereal now.
“This little gizmo is amazingly powerful,” mused Roy, walking back into his apartment.
“Well, babe, I gotta go to work,” said Crunch the Frog, giving Sarah another disgustingly slobbery kiss. “The library will be opening soon.”
“You... uh... you work at the library?” Roy asked, still feeling a bit weird about addressing a giant, cartoonish frog.
“Of course!” laughed Crunchy. “You okay, Roy? I've been a junior librarian for a few years now. Anyhow, I gotta jet. See you later, babe!”
“Buh-bye, love of my life!” cooed Sarah, making goofy, lovey-dovey faces at the frog.
Evidently the cereal mascot now had Sarah's old job as well, thought Roy. He supposed Sarah now had Jack's job. He wondered if in this new reality he and Sarah had been best friends through high school and college. How much had reality changed?
