He was hardly able to sit still on most days. Today just happened to have him particularly on edge. “With Smith back, and dad on vacation for a few weeks, the house’s never been livelier,” he said with an ironic edge to his voice.
Ashley nodded as she watched him play with the ball. Figuring that Mr. Wheeler could use the break, she could enjoy some time with her boyfriend. “Must be nice, though,” she said. She lay next to him on the bed, occasionally jumping in to throw the ball with him. Lounging around the house with him was nice, although she was certainly grateful she had gifted Jake an air freshener for last Christmas. While his family probably didn’t mind the smell of guy in every room, she certainly did. “At least your whole family’s under one roof for the rest of the summer. Some of us aren’t as lucky.”
“Your folks still in London?”
“Rome, now, actually...” she said with a sigh.
Jake didn’t immediately reply, but he reached out and squeezed her thigh. “Dad won’t mind if you wanna join us in whatever we’re gonna do for his break, y’know. Smith’ll be here until October if you wanna do something during labor day weekend, too.” He grinned at her, his boyish cheeks reddening as he spoke to her. Though Jake was legally an adult, he still remained baby-faced. To combat this, he had tried to grow out his stubble. Though it still wasn’t as well-groomed as Smith’s or as seasoned as Richard’s. Still, Ashley would be lying if she said she didn’t like it.
“Actually, do you mind if I use the bathroom?” She got up and left the room, her mind already buzzing with ideas on what she could do with the men of this house. Brandon was gone for the weekend at a friend’s house, so it was Jake, Richard, and Smith in her palms.
“Oh, Ashley, I didn’t realize you were here.” Richard’s deep, rich baritone shook Ashley from her thoughts. “I heard from Jake your summer’s quite free. Let me know if there’s anything I can do for you two kids,” he said with a fatherly smile. “We owe you one so don’t be afraid to cash in on any sort of favor.”
Before the two had started dating, Ashley had heard that Jake was barely able to pull C-’s for his class. After he found out about her college plans, he shot up to a B+ student with barely any noticeable effort on his part. “It’s not like I did much,” she said with her practice humility. “Jake’s a smart guy. It’s all been his effort.”
“Maybe so, but you gave him a nice motivator. Either way, consider yourself a part of this family, Ashley.” The two continued to chat until Richard suddenly yawned. “Ah, sorry. I spent a little too much time watching that Star Wars marathon last night since today’s my cheat day. Well, I’ll leave you kids alone.” Mentally brushing off the ‘kids’ remark, Ashley stared at Richard as he wandered to his room. Along the way, he stopped to stretch and Ashley saw his back muscle through his tight shirt.
Biting her bottom lip, Ashley rushed to the bathroom to hide her arousal. Along the way, she spotted Smith working out with his door wide open. He didn’t greet her, as he was too busy doing burpees while wearing air pods. She didn’t bother trying to get his attention. There was already a plan forming in Ashley’s head.
Finally, she arrived at the bathroom and locked the door behind her. Having considered what each of the men offered her, Ashley decided to... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
