Chapter #8

Handing off the sibling

    by: NotImmediately Author IconMail Icon
"Damn." Simon muttered. "That'll be Athena."
Aura rolled her eyes. "Her timing's as terrible as ever." She drummed a fingertip against the palm Simon was resting in. "Say..."
"Aura?" Simon prompted her when she trailed off. "What are you thinking...?"
He could see the beginnings of a familiar smirk on his sister's face. That didn't sit well with him.
He gave a bark of surprise as Aura closed her hand over him. His body was crumpled into her grip, left to awkwardly wriggle in place as Aura brought him around to her lower back and stood up.

A devious collection of thoughts swirling around her mind, Aura walked over to the door. Simon was ineffectually struggling against her closed hand behind her back. With her free hand, she opened the door. She faked a smile at the sight of Athena on the other side. The defence lawyer was dressed more casually than Aura was used to, with a yellow hoodie in place of her suit jacket, and a pair of shorts below that point. She had a bag slung over her shoulder as well.
"Uhh... hey, Aura." Athena said, apparently a bit surprised. "I figured Simon would answer. So... how've you been?"
"In prison." Aura said flatly. Athena wilted a bit at the short answer.
"Uh... yeah. ... Where is Simon?" Athena asked, changing tactics on the spot.
"He's around." Aura said. "Why don't you come in?"
"Sure." Athena replied, stepping past Aura to enter the house.

Aura watched as Athena stepped into the small kitchen. She wanted to introduce her newly-shrunken brother to Athena. That would be a much more enjoyable afternoon than listening to Athena's attempts at conversation with her. Their relationship definitely hadn't improved enough yet.
The question was, how would she go about handing him off? Should she tell Athena about the situation directly, or keep him a secret for now?
