Redd White was enjoying his day.
There was a certain satisfaction he felt on most days, simply knowing just how far his reach within the city's legal world was. He had important figures in every major position of office effectively in his pocket, owed to an extensive collection of particularly valuable secrets of theirs held within his organization.
He didn't much like the word "blackmail", but he supposed that it wasn't entirely wrong.
Earlier today, he'd had a run-in with some irritating attorney. The man's name was "Wrong", or something. He didn't enjoy having to interact with the little people on a day-to-basis, and he was glad to have the lawyer out of his way for now. He had business to attend to today.
Moving with a purposeful stride, he approached the front door of a luxurious home, belonging to a noted scientist. The scientist in question had, as White's firm has recently discovered, made the less-then-genius decision to plagiarize the work of a colleague of his. Dangling this knowledge over the man's head as a looming threat, White had every intention of... encouraging the scientist to do him a few favours as a payment to keep him and his firm quiet on the matter.
Following a brief conversation with the scientist, White happily collected what he'd come for. A small device, built to appear identical to the ornamental diamonds he wore on his suit, which could, as he understood it, physically alter the size of anything he directed its beam towards.
A "shrinkifying device", he liked to call it.
"If you don't mind, I'd like to perform a test here." White said, ignoring the scientist's stammered protests. He tapped a finger to the device's front, and it took effect instantly. A fizzling beam of light issued forward until it struck the desk that the scientist had just been seated by. The desk and all of its equipment began to rapidly shrink, getting smaller and small until the desk itself was barely the size of a coin.
White smiled appreciatively.
"This is simply magnamulous," he said, offering a hand to the scientist. The man refused to accept the gesture. White shook his head and went on, "No matter. My thanks for all your work, and I look forward to our next conversification."
White left the house in short order, already imagining a list of potential candidates for further testing the effectiveness of this new device. Truthfully, he'd considered shrinking the scientist himself and simply leaving him there in his gigantic home, but he'd decided against it, reasoning that he still had use for the man.
The first person to come to mind as a new target was the secretary he'd recently hired back in his office.   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
