This choice: Jean, the Phoenix Queen of Zaldin  •  Go Back...
Chapter #3

Jean, the Phoenix Queen of Zaldin

    by: Unknown
A horde of vibrantly colored heads on top of black suits came running through the parting doors and slid to stops at trained positions in the room, a few of them leaping up and flying to latch onto support beams built along the ceiling. The sight of them in such action distracted me from three of the bird-agents striding towards the kitchen door, and I came to just in time to leap out of the way from being trampled by the two running in.

"Workership liscense?" Demanded the third agent that stayed outside.

"Y-Yeah, sure!" I fumbled more then usual as I pulled out my wallet, flashing him my ID.

"Hmm..." An eyebrow creased over his sunglasses as he examined the card. "Alright. That's a check."

One of the agents peeked his head through the door. "Everybody here checks, sir!"

"Got it." He hit a button on his wristwatch and spoke into the face. "Bring her in!"

Every one of the bird guards' heads swiveled towards the White Brimstone's main doors. They cracked open, then were heaved apart by two grounded rows of birds pushing through, opening the door for a very tall, very wide, and very round body that stood outside, partly silhouetted by the harsher lighting in the Aether's hallways.

Four hefty phoenixes dressed in veils fluttered into the room whilst carrying the ends of a long square of ornately designed fabric along the ground, but even as towered dover the rest of the bodyguards, they weren't even a paper clip on a rubber band compared to the gigantic ruler whose stomach poured out several feet over every end of the material. Jean didn't even look like she needed their help as she effortlessly walked in through the door, despite carrying a stomach that poured out along a length of floor almost as long as the climb up along her thick lovehandles to the top of her shoulders, and wide enough to form the curve of a bell tracing down from the tips of her shoulder blades.

She held her beak high with her eyes shut, flaunting a layer of black mascara that punched two holes within the emerald green luster of her feathers, all dressed up in an exotic flair that was topped by a thin red veil that flared around a head of weightless, wavy black hair.

Her eyes were still closed as she lowered her monolithic legs into her seat, but then she glanced to her right and looked around at the ground. That hit my spark plug and I strode briskly, yet smoothly to her side.

"HEY, YOU!!!" One of her body guards panicked at my speed and rocketed straight at me, strikign the ground only a few feet away from me when I stumbled and faceplanted on the hardwood. "WHAT BUSINESS DO YOU HAVE WITH ZALDIN'S JEAN?!!?"

"Oh, relax, Thespi..." Jean tempered, but not out of compassion. "I highly doubt a human as him'll count as a major threat."

Well, I think I'd made a good enough impression... I mentally smacked myself.
