When her parents made her sign up as an unofficial part-time babysitter, she hadn't felt like she was qualified for the role at all nor felt like she wanted it from the beginning. She wanted to avoid as much contact as possible with other people since she considered them a little scary to hang out with or even talk to sometimes.
However, after the first few jobs she started to feel a little comfortable. The kids were easy to talk to and didn't have any of the complications that teens her age had to deal with yet. They shared a bit of her interests and she got along easily, even read some stories for them, all in the span of a few hours while their parents were off doing something else. Though she had done most of the gigs around the neighborhood, she had to walk past a few blocks near her school to the Newton's. Their house was pretty much an ordinary one that housed two adults and two young kids. Focusing her mind on the job today, she rang the doorbell and was brought inside.
The parents were heading out for a business meeting of sorts which meant they might not return until later tonight, plenty of time for her to get along with the kids and tuck them in before it got late. She'd be taking care of Jack and Chloe, the former being 10 years old and the latter a year younger, both were a little bit hyperactive as if they had sugar in the morning as their fuel for the day but they were definitely nice kids if a little curious about the world. They had a bunch of legos around with an unfinished set, a toy rocket ship , a teacup set and a few DVDs next to the bookshelf.
Amber had set her schoolbag aside in the living room while she sat on the floor criss-crossed, hoping to connect with them as they got out coloring books with crayons as their instruments of art.
"That's pretty good." Amber said even if she had difficulties with drawing. "Do you do this often?"
"Yeah. I'm gonna grow up to be an artist someday." Chloe said as she used the blue crayon on the flower page.
"Aw, that's so cool."
"Not as cool as being a space ranger." Jack said from the other side of the small table. "That's what I want to be."
"That's cool too." Amber said, not wanting to take sides and hopefully not get a fight started.
While she hung out with the kids with a small smile, she'd forgotten about the 'prop gun' she had in her backpack but that wasn't going to last too long though as soon enough, one of the kids got curious enough to snoop around and open her bag. Who was it that got the ray?
