ITS SCIENCE!!!!

Damn it, Bill, calm down. Yes, lets go with a sciency reason for Brain Expansion. Here's my idea:

A scientist recruits a female gorgon for an experiment. She uses nanobots to act as tiny doctors, examining the gorgon's body and collecting data on her insides. They make it to her brain but sadly malfunction, causing some interesting side effects. I'm sure you can guess what happens next.
