"Look, Chilan, I appreciate that, but I need to find my brother."
"You don't need to find your brother. You simply want to find your brother."
"No, I need to find him."
"No, you want to him. Want to know how I know?"
"Not particularly. I need to go now. Bye."
Chilan's arm flicked out and grabbed Laura's wrist. "Now now, child. Listen to me. I am older and wiser than you are, do as I say and you shall be safe."
"And my brother?" Laura glared at the lady ghost keeping her prisoner.
"In good time my dear." Chilan tugged on Laura's arm, forcing the girl to plop down, hard, on a nearby stool.
"OW! Uuugh!" Laura yelled. "Let. Me. Go!" She tried tugging herself free but every move made Chilan's grip tighter.
"Not until you stop struggling." Chilan replied.
Laura's eyes shot daggers at Chilan.
"I'm trying to keep you safe. How can you rescue your brother if you, too, are in danger?"
"I'm not in danger!" Laura kept tugging, and Chilan's grip kept tightening.
Flinging Laura towards a nearby window, Chilan simply said "Look for yourself. Look me in the eye and tell me that is not dangerous."
Looking out the window, Laura saw the trolls converging towards the hut. "It's not dangerous." Laura forced herself to look Chilan in the eye while saying that. She was desperate to get out and desperate to find her brother. She did not trust Chilan. Grabbing a sword on her way out, Laura began randomly slicing and swinging it about, as if to ward off the trolls.
"Ahh, Miss Laura. We've been waiting for you!" One of the trolls exclaimed.
Caught off guard, Laura lowered the sword. "Wait, what?"
"We've been waiting for you." another one said simply.
"Why?"
"To lead you back to Steven. We're here to help!"
Laura frowned. This sounded a little dangerous. Trolls usually did not help humans- contrarily they frequently misled people and took them in circles- much like pixies or sprites of the forest would to a lost traveler. Heaving up her borrowed sword again, she narrowed her eyes. "Why should I believe you?"
"Because we know Steven is in great danger right now."
"That still sounds weird."
"No no no, we promise you this is not a trick. We are faithfully yours. We shall lead or follow you as you desire." the trolls bowed down to Laura.
Completely confused, Laura decided to give them a try. "Fine. Lead me to Steven. And some of you stay back so Chilan doesn't get to me again."
The trolls hurried and scurried about to follow orders. Laura wondered if she had done the right thing to trust them.
