Meeting the Wise One of Silverden

    by: Shaye Author IconMail Icon
Struggling to keep pace with the fast fairy, who could easily dodge fallen trees that Steven and Laura had to clamber over, they eventually reached a large valley, framed by trees and a sparkling river. The sky was finally visable again, hues of orange, red and blue as the sun appeared barely visible over the horizon.

"I thought there would be something here," Laura murmured to Steven.

The fairy fluttered in front of Laura's face. "Of course!" She squeaked. "You can't see it. Hold on."

The small fairy, with baby blue wings and a matching dress began to chant something incomprehensible.

Sharing a confused glance, Laura and Steven watched as the fairy's features began to change from a soft porcelain, to a tomato red.

"Are you okay?" Laura asked, offering her hand for the fairy to rest on when she'd finished chanting.

Sitting comfortably on Laura's hand, the fairy spoke, "Close your eyes. Both of you."

Complying, they closed their eyes, no idea what to expect.

"Open them."

They opened their eyes and were greeted with a small but bustling market place. Eyes widening, they hungrily took in their surroundings. None of the stalls were manned by humans, each manned by a different creature. Genies, goblins, fairies, imps, centaurs, even a vampire, all selling different wears. At the centre of the madness, a regal tent stood tall, shadowing the rest of the market. The red and gold material of the tent screamed important and expensive, and Laura and Steven were dying to find out what was inside.

Laura and Steven immediately bee-lined for the tent, ignoring the vampire, selling many goods, most likely stolen from his victims. Ignoring the genie, offering to grant a wish in exchange for ten years of the person's life. The amount of people surrounding the genie worried Laura, but she had to find out what was inside the tent.

Not a single person stood near the tent, as if it wasn't even there.

"Where are you two going?" The fairy asked.

"To the tent," Steven pointed.

The fairy looked, frowning at the tent. "What tent?"

"Right in front of us," Laura said.

"If you say so," the fairy pickd itself up from Laura's hand and flew off. "Thanks for your help, but you'll be okay from here." She was gone before Laura or Steven could utter another word.

As her eyes adjusted to the lack of light in the tent, her jaw dropped open. An old man sat at the centre of the tent on a golden throne. Surrounding him thousands of pieces of gold, pure gold coins.

The greying man stood, greeting them with a bow.

He spoke, "...
