Jason and Natalie found themselves with a couple of interlopers who interrupted their picnic. Jason thanked the heavens that hadn’t gotten up to what he planned yet. “You take the medallion?” His father asked in an accusing tone.
“You want to check to see if anything changed on me.” Jason pointed at his crotch.
His mother rolled her eyes, “Don’t be so dramatic. Yes or no?”
“No.”
“Why do you two need to make it so hard? You and Natalie have a nice but not too nice date.” Joanne grabbed Jeff taking him away against his protestations. A phone call from their worker Molly came in.
Jeff answered, “Everything okay at the petting zoo?”
Molly responded hesitantly, “There was an injury with Chuck but he is okay. He used the shapeshifting medallion to repair himself but I forgot to leave a note. I am so sorry. I put it back.” Molly hoped they wouldn’t find out about how they literally were screwing around on the job.
Jeff hung up after saying goodbye not questioning Molly and explained the phone call to his wife. Joanne said, “We will be apologizing to Jason tonight. But since we have this time together I want to discuss with you an idea I have.”
“Okay I will apologize. What is this idea you have?”
“You know how we have that enormous empty enclosure that we are debating what animal to install in. Well, until we decide how about we have a cretaceous creation. Everyone loves dinosaurs.” Joanne said.
Since selling off their elephants it remained empty. “That would be amazing!” Jeff quickly jumped aboard the plan. They implemented their plan as soon as they returned to the zoo. Drafting advertising and developing ideas for which dinosaurs along with how to stage it. A week of set up produced satisfying results. Jason forgave especially with an opportunity to transform into a tyrannosaurus rex. Iconic and an enormous draw for all ages. No way they planned to exclude it.
Inside their large staging area Jason used the medallion to transform. A frightening form developed. A mouth stretched out as his teeth became pointed as they gained rending qualities. His skin leathery and a powerful tail snaking out of Jason. It helped to counterbalance his enlargening head. He stomped out from behind a screen. Cries of excitement cheered his arrival. He wandered about the enclosure roaring baring his teeth to the delight of the those gathered. Pictures of all types from distant lenses to braver souls doing selfies at enclosure edge. Some people jumped at his approach. Jason relished all reactions from fright to wonder.
Natalie joined Jason in the show but her transformation took a different direction. Horns shot out of her head. A triumvirate of protection. Skin thickened and her mouth stiffened into a hard beak. She came out of the screen on all fours. Her large body supported by stump like legs. The triceratops faced off with the tyrannosaurus. Carefully they orchestrated their play. Bellowing and snapping at each other. Slowly they backed up and behind the screen ending their show. Cheers filled the arena. Clothes and souvenirs sold swiftly along with tapes of similar performances.
Joanne came up with an idea setting a leather working friend to build a specialized saddle. Triceratops rides brought with them incredible lines. The husband and wife duo began the process of hiring in more staff in order to work stands and help with increased patrons. Abby pressured her parents to hire her new boyfriend Alex. Jeff worried about them using work hours for hanky panky. Joanne kindly reminded him that Abby was almost an adult and could comport herself just fine.
