Denise pulled up to the married couples country house with a truck full of hay for the horses and groceries for her and her husband Mike. She walked into the house with a few arms full of food and called out. "Honey? Could you come out and help unload the truck? And bring the medallion, I'd like to have 'Dennis' help out." Dennis was Denise's regular and very muscular male form when she used the medallion to do heavy lifting around the house or when she felt like having a higher alcohol tolerance than usual. But when she put the bags down in the kitchen she noticed her husband wasn't coming.

"Mike? Did you hear me?" No response. "Guess he's out back in the barn, but he should have still have heard me pull up." Denise walked to the back porch to call out again to her husband, but as soon as she opened the back door something dropped from the ceiling. Rising off the ground was a metallic black creature with three legs and spikes sticking out of it. Denise couldn't look at any more details of it as she was distracted by the creature coming up face to 'face' with her. The black elongated head had a smooth face, until it split open vertically to reveal a mouth filled with over a hundred razor sharp teeth. The beast let out a high pitched scream that shook the house a little bit. As Denise looking into the mouth of this monstrosity she put a finger in her ear to clean it out a bit and casually said, "There you are honey, if you haven't finished with the medallion so I can use it, can you please unload the truck with me?"

Even though the monstrous beast didn't have a traditional face it still somehow looked disappointed. It's vertical mouth opened again and the voice of a young man came out, "Sure babe. But I really thought I'd get a reaction out of you this time."

Feeling like she might have hurt her husband's feelings who had obviously worked hard on a shapeshifter form to scare her said, "Oh you did, I just didn't show it. Trust me, I'm scared on the inside."

"I'm sure." Mike said as made his way to the truck. "But hypothetically if you haven't seen me shape shift into hundreds of alien like creatures do you think that one would memorable? Do you have some constructive criticism for me?"

Denise tried to think about what to say as she unloaded the truck. Really coming up with new things to say about her husband's made up alien forms was becoming more and more difficult. Almost every day for years now Mike had been working on making new aliens and creatures for his Sci Fi themed books. He was good at it, and was well paid for it but he felt like he was in a bit of a writers slump and Denise didn't think she could help provide fresh eyes to help him out because she was so used to seeing aliens in her living room every day. Struggling to come up with something she said, "Well, I was certainly scared of your bad breath. I don't suppose you could make it so that it would smell like cotton candy or cinnamon rolls. That would probably help your creature be more memorable."

"Yeah, sure I guess." Mike said as he stuck two bails of hay on some black spikes that protruded from his shoulders. Denise knew she hadn't given him and answer he was hoping to hear, "Cheer up Mike, just because I didn't have a reaction doesn't mean it's not a great design. You're the best at what you do," Denise leaned forward to kiss her husband on the top of his head but hesitated, "Kissing you won't poison me, impregnate me with and alien baby, or shoot acid all over the house right?"

Mike paused as he disabled the acid glands he had initially created, "No it won't." He said as he felt his wife kiss him. Mike really did think she was the best thing that ever happened to him, she was smart, brave, and accepting. Unfortunately all these qualities made Denise a bad person to get reactions out of for his research. After the two finished unloading and putting up the store bought items Mike curled up a 6 foot tail Denise hadn't even noticed before and sat on it. "I've been thinking, maybe I should find someone who will provide a more genuine reaction to an alien popping up in their home. Maybe I should pay a visit to some of the neighbors"

Denise sighed, she knew this was coming, "I'm sorry I'm not great at reacting to stuff anymore, but is using the shapeshifting medallion to mess with our neighbors the right idea?"

"If I want to continue to improve as a writer I think it is. And this is about as safe an environment as possible. We're close to all our neighbors and everyone is really isolated so their isn't a risk of some random person seeing me. And if someone tried to shoot me or call the FBI or something I'll just make sure I have a teleportation power or something so I can get away easily."

Denise knew why her husband wanted to do this and was behind him, "So long as you have a fail safe, but do you really want to expose them to one of your more horrifying monsters like this one? How about going with a cute ET model that even kids could love. Or even go with something that won't break peoples mind like the traditional beautiful green woman like the old tv shows. You'll still get good reactions and it might not just be screaming out in terror."

Mike thought about it and thought Denise had a point. So with a few minutes left on the shapeshifting medallion shifted from his current horrifying form and he made his decision and shifted into a less scary form before the medallion fell to the floor.
