"...in all of my years reviewing fantasy novels I have never come across one with this balanced mix of drama, storytelling, and steamy romance. The golems in Mike's fabulous novel Hearts of Stone are some of the most well flushed out and dare I say most human characters I've read in years. Make sure you keep your eyes on this author's bright future." Denise put down the paper with a huge smile on her face. "Mike baby, the people love it! I'm so proud of you!" Denise said dropping the review and jumping into her husbands arms. Her wide smile was only matched by his. It had only been a week since 'Hearts of Stone' had made it to print and it was already Mike's best selling book by far even making it onto the bestsellers list in fantasy.
Mike kissed his lovely wife, "And thanks to the advance I've gotten for the next book I can take my time doing my research. Not to mention finally finish the repairs on from the 'research' from Hearts of Stone. " Mike said as he looked in the direction of their bedroom which had not been the same since both Mike and Denise in golem form did...research all day and night long. With a sparkle in her eye Denise smiled and said, "It was worth it even if the book flopped." The husband and wife kissed again before Denise asked, "So do you have anything in mind for the next book that you might need help researching? We could always go for a sequel, then again there's all sorts of neat things I'm sure we could try out. Centaurs are pretty hot and we've got the room, or if we can to try something small we could try fairy's or nymphs. Or we could go golem again and make a sequel that will knock your socks off."
At this Mike got a little nervous and pulled away from his wife. "Actually I was thinking of something...bigger."
"Oh giants? That would be interesting and we've got the space but it will be hard to hide us if we both transform."
"No not bigger literately, I mean...I want to really test the powers of that medallion. What can it really do. When we were golems it transformed us in supernatural ways that I didn't think were possible even with it. Now that we know the medallion can do golems, I want to really test how big we can go."
"You're scarring me a little, but you've got me curious, I never even thought about it like that. You've obviously been thinking about it. What do you have in mind. Become a god?"
Mike chuckled, "No not quite...at least not now. I've got a couple of things in mind." Mike pulled out his notebook that had pages of notes. "At first I thought of things like vampires and werewolves but I don't want to transform into something that could potentially hurt you Denise. But that got me thinking...what if I tried to become a were...something. Like say I make myself a were squirrel for example. I keep my body, but make it so that I change into a squirrel at sundown and back into myself at sunrise. I let the medallion run out while the sun is still up and then wait for sundown to see what happens and see if it works."
"A squirrel? Really? That's the best you could come up with?"
"Well I could go with something more risky but still kind of safe I guess...how about a were-mammal. I transform into a random mammal at sundown so I don't have to worry about being a bug or a fish or something like that."
"Sounds dangers and exciting." Denise kissed her husband, "If you don't try it for research I might just try it myself for fun."
"I thought you'd like that...the other is even more...law defying." Denise listened to Mike intently, "I could try to become something that could bend reality. I could try to shapeshift into...a genie."
"Ultimate cosmic power..." Denise said her eyes widening as she realized what this could mean if it actually worked.
"Itty bitty living space. I saw that movie too." Mike began pacing, "That could be the ultimate test of how far can the medallion's powers be stretched." Mike sat down on the couple's couch, the last minute had been mentally exhausting. "So Denise, what do you think I should try?"
