Chapter #5

Science Fiction

Science Fiction has always been one of your favorite genres growing up. Everything from the likes of Frankenstein, Star Trek, Alien, and more obscure fair like The Head that Wouldn't Die captured your imagination and hooked you like nothing else ever had before.

This genre in particular always like to ask questions and make force the observer to think about the world at large and infinite expanse of the unknown. It liked to play on the fears of the times and create interesting stories that would stick with you long after they've ended.

One such film while not as complex as the likes of The Termintor or The Incredible Shrinking Man, was a remake of the 1958 classic known as Attack of the 50FT Woman. Out of all the many Science Fiction films you've seen, this one in particular was your all-time favorite.

It was about as simple as they come plot wise and the acting was hammy at best, but you didn't care. There was just something about the two films that you liked and the 1993 remake in particular stuck with you even as you grew up and matured.

Nancy Archer's revenge against her cheating husband Harry wasn't anything you hadn't seen before as revenge stories were a dime-a-dozen, but not many had woman as stunning as Daryl Hannah in your opinion. Especially around the time that the film was released.

She was the best part of the whole movie and that made sense considering the was pretty much the main character and the monster near the end depending on your perspective. Did you honestly think she was a monster by the end? No, not really. In the original maybe, but not in the remake.

Currently you were at home in your one room apartment that you bought after finishing college and continuing an old tradition of yours. You pulled out an old VHS tape and smiled when you saw it was your copy of 1993 remake of Attack of the 50FT Woman.

Every year you did a rewatch of this film and this year would be no different. You popped it into your VHS player and took a seat on your futon as you turned down the lights and watched the opening credits roll. Sometimes you wondered what you would do if you were in the characters situation when Nancy eventually went on her rampage.

Would you run and hide? Would you try to talk to her? Maybe you end up getting killed because you were standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. You weren't really sure but death by giantess didn't sound like the worst way to go... God, you needed a girlfriend.

As the film continued to roll your eyes began to grow heavy. For some reason you felt tired. More so than normal. Try as you might you just couldn't keep your eyes open or stop yourself from yawning. If you'd been able to, you would've noticed the odd purple glow that was coming from your VHS player.

Everything went dark and when you came to...
