Chapter #3

Jessica O'Hare, AKA pull apart.

by: lord thanatos Author IconMail Icon
You've done it! You've actually completed the experimental serum that you've secretly been working on for so long. Of course, it wouldn't have been necessary to keep it secret if that Moronic bitch Cecile would only give you free reign to conduct your experiments as you see fit! But no, instead she insists on the same slow, slow, methodical and inefficient methods she and the other base researchers have been using ever since the project began! Sure your own methods contained some small element of risk, but then, no truly great advancement in human history has ever been made without being prepared to make sacrifices and take a risk or two. How dare they question your calculations, your judgement, your insight? You were the genius, not them! That was the whole point of the government recruiting you for this project in the first place! They should be taking orders from you, not the other way around! Instead, you were forced to bow to the senile old cows authority. in public that is.

Privately however, your work continues, though slowly, due primarily to the need for absolute secrecy, a difficult thing to come by in a high security government installation, even for a mind of your caliber, as well as the difficulty involved in acquiring DNA samples from the various supers for testing. Despite these difficulties however, the serum is now complete and ready for testing. When it works, and you know it will, your vast intellect can allow for no other possibility, you'll be able to exult in the adulation and the envy of your peers in the scientific community, not to mention live large off of the fat government contracts sure to come your way after such a stunning success. Who knows, you may even get a Nobel prize out of the deal.

There's only one final step left to take. All you need do is inject yourself with the serum, and wait for the effects to manifest themselves, and all your dreams will become a reality. Plus, you'll have super powers, the combined sum of all the test subjects abilities all at your fingertips, transforming you into easily one of the most powerful individuals on the planet! That is,if your theory's and calculations are correct you remind yourself, and for the briefest of moments you hesitate, allowing the tiniest shreds of doubt to creep into your psyche as you wonder if the old bats approach may have some small amount of merit, that perhaps more testing should be done before initiating human trials, particularly with you yourself as your sole test subject. Quickly you discount such thoughts however, your usual incredible self confidence, some might even refer to it as arrogance, in your own abilities reasserting itself, and without another thought you jab yourself with the injection device and press the plunger home, forcing the glowing crimson liquid into your blood stream.

After only a few moments you begin to notice the effects, your skin tingling as a general felling of what you can only describe as looseness spreads throughout your body. It won't be long now you suspect, idly wondering what it will be like to exercise your new powers, what it will feel like to change shape for the very first time, to travel from one corner of the earth to another in the blink of an eye, to invade the body and mind of another and bend them to your will. You soon discover that something's not right however. You've begun to feel dizzy, faint, your blood pressure rising rapidly as your heart rate nearly doubles. Then, the seizures start, your body thrashing around violently out of control, smashing beakers and test tubes filled with chemical compounds, many of them dangerous, their contents spilling onto you and mixing even as the shattered glass slices into your forearms. Thrashing wildly, damaging and knocking over lab equipment, you fall to the floor in a twitching pile, continuing to spasm while foaming at the mouth. Your vision becomes cloudy as your eyes glaze over, and then.... nothing.
