"Ugh, Yukiko..." Naoto groaned.
It was indeed a bikini, Naoto realized as the top came separate out of the pile. Dark blue in color, she could already tell that the two pieces would not be covering much of her, which made her nervous. Not only would it leave her gender unambiguous and easily apparent for everyone to see, but she also felt uncomfortable wearing such scanty clothes, especially if she was going to be stared at. She couldn't even make it through the swimsuit portion of that damned beauty pageant Yosuke signed her and the girls up for back then!
But as much as Naoto wanted to pack it in, she remembered her friends and that the girls (plus Teddie), had picked this out for her. She couldn't just throw that back in their faces. And like it or not, she would have to conform to some kind of swimsuit so that they could get in... she could do this much for them at least.
Sighing, she put the bikini on, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it fit her perfectly, and seemed to be holding okay. And at least there was some decent coverage of her cleavage and bottom on this one, rather than some other swimsuits she had seen which were little more than strings and modesty triangles. She could probably make this work. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door and stepped back outside.
"Woohoo! Nao-chan!" Teddie cheered.
"N-Naoto!" Kanji stammered. "You, um, you-"
"You look amazing, Naoto-kun!" Rise cheered as well, along with other encouraging remarks from the rest of the team.
"T-Thanks," Naoto said, already feeling embarrassed. She was standing firm, not wasnting to be shaken, but that would be easier if the guys would pick up their jaws from the ground. Even Yu looked flustered, for goodness sakes!
"We were hoping it would work," said Yukiko. "They didn't have anything else in your size, so we were hoping this would be okay. And with a two-piece, we all match!... Um, kind of, at least. Do you like it?"
"It's... wonderful. Thank you, everyone." said Naoto, not wanting to disappoint and knowing that it could have been worse.
"All right!" said Chie. "We're all in swimsuits now. No more problems letting us in, right?" she addressed the lifeguard.
"Oh, um, yeah, sure," the lifeguard replied, startlingly more polite. "Again, I'm sorry if I er, inconvenienced you in any way, um, Miss. I mean, I probably should have let you in to shop, since you were in need and all, but, you know, the rules-"
"Stop. It's fine," Naoto said, leveling her voice. Amazing how much more cooperative you are now than before... she thought bitterly.
With that obstacle out of their way, the swimsuit-clad Investigation Team entered the beach and soon found a spot and set on up. There were others at the beach, but not too many, and thankfully none of them were staring their way, everyone all swept up in their own activities. Naturally, after some boasting by Yosuke that he was right on the money, the discussion turned to what to do next, and everyone decided to do their own things for a bit. Teddie decided to canvass the beach for some "hot babes," and Yosuke followed suit, partly to join in and partly to make sure that Teddie wouldn't do something that ended up in them all getting thrown out. Rise pulled Yu down over to the shoreline with a glint in her eye and a mischievous smile... they would probably be gone a while. Then, Yukiko realized she was hungry, so she and Chie headed over to the snack shop, leaving the young detective alone with Kanji.
"Looks like it's just the two of us," Naoto said.
"Uh, yeah," Kanji answered.
"Everyone else seems to have decided except for us. Was there something you wished to do, Kanji-kun?" Naoto asked.
"To do? You mean, together?" Kanji asked, sounding surprised.
"If you'd like," Naoto shrugged. "I mean, everyone else has paired up as well, and I'm open for pretty much anything. But if there was something you wanted to do on your own, please do not let me be a hindrance. I was just planning on reading right here for a while if that is the case."
"Oh, well, I uh... AH! I just realized I forgot to eat this morning. Gotta get some grub!" he stammered, then sped off toward the snack shop.
"Hm, I guess reading it is, then," Naoto shrugged, sitting down on a towel and opening her book, eager to pick up where she left off. It was probably best this way. She was almost at the climax where the detective was about to confront-
"Hey!"
Naoto had only made it a few pages before she was interrupted. It was Chie, with a mostly-eaten steak croquette in her mouth. "Just sitting here all by yourself?"
"Yes," Naoto answered. "Kanji was here before but he-"
"Just stormed to the snack line all nervous and red in the face? Yeah..." Chie sighed.
"I knew it..." Naoto groaned, hunching over to conceal her well-framed bust.
"Hey, it's not your fault. Kanji's always been that nervous around you even in your normal clothes, you know? It's probably just cause you were alone together," Chie said, finishing up her food and tossing the skewer on their stuff. "Hm... Tell you what, how about we get Yukiko and Kanji with us and then we all go do something so we can start having fun here and forget all about that scummy lifeguard."
"Well, I suppose since I am wearing a swimsuit I should make the most of this, and a group activity may ease Kanji's nerves," said Naoto, uncurling herself and setting her book aside. "All right, I'm in. What do you suggest?"
"Okay!" Chie grinned. "How about we all go-"
