Elisa mooed again, this time quietly. She took her son aside and lowered her voice as she spoke to him. "Jeremy...you've been acting nervous all morning. What's really up? Just tell me something quick, and we'll discuss it later after school, alright?"
Jeremy looked out at the other staring kids. Everyone, from the fat bully Jimmy Hopkins to his baseball-loving buddy Timmy, looked either scared of his newly-transformed mother; or had a look that screamed Get on with it, dummy! He looked back at his expectant buffalo-mom and sighed. "Might as well get this over with...Mom, have you, uh; looked in the mirror since we left home?"
"...Kiddo, if this is leading to a joke, it better be a good one. You're making me worried." Elisa's new bovine ears twitched, swatting away a passing fly.
Jeremy, showing strength far beyond his years, managed to NOT shout what came next.
"Mom, you've turned into a cape buffalo."
"....What?!" Elisa was flabbergasted and started to laugh. Jostling her son's hair with a new hoof. "Jeremy, what are you on about? Even if that WAS possible, I think I'd notice someth--" She broke off as she caught sight of herself in a puddle underfoot. Staring with mouth agape, she saw that her human form was indeed gone. Jeremy was telling the truth....
Meanwhile, Jeremy waved the other kids away, staying quiet but sending a clear message: Mom Freak-Out incoming! Take cover!!
