Chapter #5

Lover's Pride

    by: Unknown
The day begun harmlessly enough in a small art colony town where two lovers were walking through a craft store. This however, wasn’t your average pair of lovers but a same sex couple. First of the couple was Ava, the shorter one, a mocha-skinned and hourglass shaped Brazilian woman who was holding tight to her lover, Zephyr, a tall and well-endowed blonde with a freckled face. The two of them were in a very happy mood. This was because they had been dating for several years and in a month they were going to be married. Zephyr held up a broach that looked like it was shaped like a rook chess piece.

“How about this one, Ava?” asked Zephyr. “Do you think that I’d look good with this brooch on?” Ava smiled. “Zephyr,” she said. “You’d look good with anything on.” Zephyr let out a giggle and then she and Ava embraced in a kiss. “You two must really be in love,” said the shopkeeper. “You’re in such a happy move.” Ava and Zephyr gave a giggle. “Well,” said Zephyr. “It’s only natural. Next month we’re going to tie the knot.” The shopkeeper gave a smile. “That’s wonderful,” she said. “That’s exactly why I love this town. Love is love, no matter who.” Ava then took Zephyr by the hand and walked down the hall. “Would you look at that tiara,” said Ava. “I bet you’d look good in that.” Zephyr let out a giggle.

However, while the lovely couple was very happy about their plans for the future, there was somebody around the corner who wasn’t very happy. He looked like a French painter and a rather disfigured looking one. One of his ears looked lower on his head than the other ear, his nose looked distorted, he appeared to have sharp teeth and his eyes seemed lower on his face than his nose. He also had a mustache and a red beret. He was yelling to himself as he read a notice. “Bastard landlord! Only one month or I’m out on the streets?! Does he not realize who I am?! I am Duba! The greatest artist in the world. And yet the stupid apes of this town do not recognize my genius. All I need is just one customer! Just one and it will show the world! But first I need to find a customer. Or two.”

That was when Duba heard the sound of a cash register and realized that Ava and Zephyr were leaving the shop. That’s when Duba got a smirk on his face and ran up to the couple as they were about to leave. “Excusez-moi, mademoiselles,” said Duba. “You two are quite beautiful. Perhaps you would each like a painting as beautiful as yourselves.” “Ugh,” said Ava. “What happened to you? Did you try to paint your own face?” Duba was about to get very angry, but then Zephyr bent down to speak with him. “You know, Ava,” she said. “It might not be such a bad idea. After all, the painting could be used to commemorate our marriage.” Duba seemed surprised that he was talking to a couple of lesbians but then she forced herself to smile. “Ah, I see,” said Duba. “A wedding. I’ve got it! It will be the greatest commemoration of a union between lovers. I promise you, come back in a week and I will have a painting ready for you to pick up. It will be the best painting in the world.” Ava let out a laugh. “That’s just what my Zephyr deserves.” “Oh you,” said Zephyr will a laugh. “Okay, sir. we will pick it up in a week.” As he shook hands with Ava, Duba let out a laugh.

Duba wasted no time getting to work and laughed to himself. “This is it. Once those two take a look at this painting that I use with my special paint, everyone will see the genius that is Duba.” Duba let out a laugh and sprayed a strange glowing paint onto the pallet before he got to work. Duba’s painting appeared to glow and Duba was humming to himself as he was putting the painting together. The finished product of the painting made it resemble the queen of hearts card with the queen being replaced by a lion and a tiger.” Once Duba took the brush away the painting glowed bright.
