Almost immediately after James got to the other side of the street, he heard a loud barking noise, which was never good. As he turned around, James saw his now full-grown dog, Sandy running after him. Sandy was not a very big dog, coming up to the middle of his mom's thigh, but to someone as malleable and apparently tasty as James, the lab was a real problem whenever she got out of the back yard. Even though he had ended up as dog food more times than he liked to admit, he still loved playing with his pet and took care of her. He just had to make sure to soak himself in a special, foul tasting solution before playing with her or feeding her. Sometimes when it was too hot to go outside without melting, he'd just sit inside and brush her soft gold coat. Since he didn't exactly plan on Sandy jumping the fence and was planning to spend the day at his neighbors' house anyway, this hadn't crossed his mind.
"*gulp* N-nice Sandy... good girl... g-go back home now...", James tried to calm the dog down, but it didn't seem to do anything. His pet simply wagged it's tail and continued running after him.
*BARK* *BARK* *BARK*
"N-no, Sandy! Go home already, you dumb mutt!", James cried as he ran in circles, hearing the neighborhood children laughing as they watched the weird putty boy being chased by his dog. "Dammit! I shoulda just stayed home today." James thought about going back inside the house, but if he stopped for a second to open the door, he'd wind up as Sandy's chew toy. If only his neighbors didn't find his plight so damn funny, he'd be able to count on them for help. "Here goes nothing...", he said to himself as he bolted toward his front door.
