The Japanese train system was known for being fast and efficient, to be sure, but also for being a den of delinquent behavior. Perverts taking advantage of the cramped quarters were a fairly common nuisance, but another type of deviant thrived in these conditions as well: pickpockets. One of the best ways to draw the attention of thieves was to be obviously foreign, and there was no way Mackenzie would be confused for a Japanese native. As such, the redhead unknowingly found herself an irresistible target for a group of thieves.

The thieves were trained and experienced, knowing how to lift possessions off of a mark without ever arousing suspicion. A rock of the train car, the jostle of a bump in the rails, and the quiet roar of assorted sounds were perfect for masking their activities, and slipping the contents of Mackenzie's bag out from right under her nose was a trivial task. Before Mackenzie even knew it, she was holding an empty purse, her wallet and other valuable possessions in the hands of thieves.

However, these thieves weren't satisfied with this bounty. It wasn't every day a foreigner that looked like Mackenzie wandered into their domain, and they couldn't live with themselves letting an opportunity like this go to waste. A knowing look between the thieves was all it took for them to move into position once more, each member of the group coordinated perfectly with the others. There was a prize more valuable than cash and documents to be had today. These thieves had their sights set on stealing-
