The two young men, soon to become a single college freshman, were going to be meeting for the first time in person for their scheduled conjoining appointment. While they had not had the opportunity to meet face to face, they spoke with each other through phone calls, face-times, and text messages often, as was recommended by the clinic's staff for any students being paired. This was one of several steps to safeguard students from being locked together with someone through their college years.
The 'randomness' of the selection process was more of educated guess work by an advanced computer system used by the clinic. The computer would take the surprisingly large list of applicants and filter them based on their answers from a survey. Students were asked a variety of questions about their personality traits, proposed major(s), sexual preferences, handedness, and other criterion to filter out individuals that would not match well, like Sociology and Engineering majors. In Henry's and Brett's case, they matched well based on the system's algorithms.
As the day for the conjoining finally approached, Brett stood by the front doors of the clinic waiting anxiously for the arrival of his soon to be other half. He ran his left hand through his dirty blonde hair and tapped his foot. "Today's the day..." he whispered to himself, trying to ignore his nerves. He and Henry had agreed to undergo the 'conjoinment' before the semester started, so they would have time to adjust. Due to money issues though, Henry could not get a flight to Nebraska until just a few days before classes started. Brett understood though. He had his only monetary problems which is why he elected to try sharing the college tuitions, dorm fees, and food with a bodymate.
Brett was so lost in his own thoughts, he almost did not recognize Henry step out of an Uber car. He smiled as he walked to the young man he was going to be sharing a body with. "Hey Henry, flight went okay?" The two shook hands, this was the first time they had actually seen each other in person.
"Yeah, no complaints." He laughed, obviously just as nervous as Brett felt. The two walked to the clinic and the sliding door opened for them. Just inside, Henry said with a forced smile, "You ready?"
