Chapter #6

A Whole Big Family, All Right

    by: Doom Author IconMail Icon
This giant, this George, lumbers toward his house, the drone to which you cling swinging at his side. It's not ideal, but you get a decent enough view, even if half of it is blocked by his powerful leg.

Mabel steps to one side as he saunters through the front door, and you get a look at some of the interior decor. It's as chaotic as the garden, the floor cluttered with trinkets and rubbish, perfect materials for a shrunken scavenger like yourself. Higher up, guns and animal skulls hang from the walls, terrifying doomsday weapons and the remains of ancient monsters from your view.

"How was school, kids?" George rumbles, turning to face a small kitchen table.

Sitting at it, leaning over the dirtied tablecloth, two creatures, ginger-haired children of identical aspect, fumble something between their giant hands. With their mops of aubiurn hair and dungarees, gender is indeterminate for these middle-schoolers, and your attention is immediately drawn more to what they carry as one finally gets flame roaring from the lighter.

"We din't learn much, pa, but we did get to burn a few insects," one smiles.

"Yeah, they burned up real good!" the other laughs.

"Tyler! Durden! Keep that fire away from the baby!"

The twins look suitably chastened as their mother walks behind them, each earning a cuff to the back of the head powerful enough to crush one such as you. Your eyes follow Mabel's magnified beauty as she walks across to the other side of the table, where the baby itself sits in a high chair, clapping in idiot delight with its pudgy hands.

Those hands begin to grasp in your direction as its squinting, ugly eyes lock onto yours, gasping as it sits up, reaching for you!

George misinterprets his child's intent. "Naw, this ain't for you, kid!"

With a simple swing he sends the drone soaring away, and once again you experience weightlessness before it all comes crashing down.

Dust erupts as your damaged vehicle thuds into the dull, brown couch, and you roll apart from it. Yow, this place really could use a clean...

"Hey! Watch it!" The mightiest strike of all impacts your vehicle, a kick pushing it over you and up against the armrest. Arms above your head, you look across at the retracting boot, and the giant wearing it. With her shoes on the furniture, she's clearly not too caring of what others think, emphasised by the trashy, rebellious clothing draped over her form.

Another loud bang heralds the popping of her pink bubblegum, before she drags the remains back inside her mouth to be crushed between her teeth some more. Once revealed, you can see the details of her teenage face, and realise that Mabel can't have been much older when she gave birth to this girl.

"This fuckin' place. I hate it here..." she mumbles, looking back to her phone again, unaware of the three-quarter inch man sharing the couch with her.

"Now, now," her mother says, stepping closer and throwing you into her shadow, "don't be glum, Dahlia. We all love this family, don't we?"

You're not too sure about that. Do you want to spend your time surviving inside this place, with these people? Resources seem abundant, but with kids that like killing insects amongst others, is this really the sort of place to try and eke out a tiny survival?
