You decide to shrink yourself super tiny and survive, nobody aware of your existence.
This choice: right there, in the kitchen.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #3

Buffet

by: Joe Random Author IconMail Icon
You aren't stupid. Whatever fun might be had hanging out with the parents or Taylor, you need to think logically. The kitchen is the epicenter of family activity -- and that means food and water in abundance.

You look along the baseboard, happy to see a few crumbs already dot it. You kneel down, and consider carefully; after a bit, you decide on the space between the refrigerator and the counter. There's enough dust there to make you think it's rarely cleaned; that's exactly what you want.

You push the device deep into the space where you'll be; it's designed for you to be able to activate it if you need to, just in case you decide this is a horrible idea. Taking a deep breath, you push the button, and stand back, and wait just a second....

It takes a few minutes to regain your bearings. Touch, taste, and smell are immediately online, but your hearing comes in only after a few moments, and it takes a good two or three minutes for your vision to clear. When it does, your jaw drops.

You thought you were prepared for the world at this size, but it's startling now that you see it. The counters loom more than a quarter-mile above you, and the refrigerator dwarfs that. You swallow hard, as you realize how enormous the Andersons will be.

Still, you don't have time to panic. You need to get settled in and prepared. You walk into the enormous canyon that separates refrigerator from cupboard, and build your camp.

More than once, you freeze instinctively, as a loud noise makes you think something's approaching. But each time, you relax. You even find that the condenser of the refrigerator, only about a ten minutes' walk from camp, is dripping just a tiny bit of water -- which for you is about a gallon a minute.

Yes, as you sit down, back against the counter, you're starting to feel okay.

That's when you hear it.

Far distant, you hear a great groaning creak, followed by a series of thuds. Irregular -- fast, then slow, then steady, then stopping altogether, then picking up again. Each one shakes you, just a tiny bit -- a small earthquake that builds slowly as the thuds approach.

You stand up, as the quakes get louder and louder. Then, suddenly you see it -- a flash of motion as the behemoth crosses in front of the refrigerator. You crane your neck up, but can only see as high as the knee of the person. still, you quickly realize it's....

You have the following choices:

1. Rachel, the mom

2. Taylor, the teen

3. Abby, the middle child

4. Dan, the father

*Noteb*
5. Ethan, the youngest child

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
