Chapter #29

Well-Adjusted to the New Circumstances

    by: Doom Author IconMail Icon
With a yawn and a stretch, you step out from your shelter, rubbing your bare toes through the sand. Another perfect morning, a brief moment of quiet stillness before the family awakens. Time enough to splash your face with water, take a gulp to wet your throat, just before distant thunder announces the rise of the giants.

He is up first, soaring to the heavens in a second, his own monstrous yawn and stretch throwing yours into the shade, echoing across the room. He thuds past your position, not looking down as he rubs at an eye, eager to be the first in the shower. His bare torso passes by your wall, as ever humbling you with his godlike physique. No sooner has he departed your sight than she stands as well.

Her roar is more one of annoyance, and her great arm casts a pillow across the room to crash against the door. "First to the shower again? You'd better not take too long!"

You're mesmerised all over again as she draws her dressing gown tight around her before crossing her arms in irritation.

"You could always water the plants, love!" his voice booms back, and you start in shock.

Crap, in the months you've dwelled in this plant pot, in the shelter of the small cactus it holds, you'd never considered the possibility of it getting watered! Cacti being dry was a reason why you thought it safe. Even though you're but a quarter of an inch tall, if someone were to peer closely they'd certainly spot you. The food and water you've been able to cut from the plant every day has also been welcome. And, if you're being truly honest... it was the sand.

You originally wanted to survive on the beach, and this is the nearest you could find. You'd planned to start your mission - those four long months ago - on the last day of summer, when there'd be no visitors who might disturb you. Oh, if only you'd put it off for a day, you'd have been left to your own devices, and not been kidnapped like this! The familiy has no plans to return to the beach any time soon either, so you're pretty screwed on that front!

As the woman hefts a small watering can, you can at least rest safe in the fact that you're not screwed here. This is just the reason why you spent those weeks setting up beta and gamma sites to fall back to in case the alpha site was compromised!

You throw yourself over the edge of the flower pot to begin your descent to the ground, ready to leave the adults' bedroom and fall back to your secondary lair, located in:
