Chapter #9

When wandering works out

"Un-real."

If you were a betting man, you would have shit your pants right at this moment. The luck of a wandering man with no real heading should have been close to zero, yet here you stand, right where you're meant to be!

The glorious garden! Paradise! Skyscraper food providers sprouting from a bed of healthy soil miles long! Within your sight, the lighthouse stood on the east side. About another hour of walking to get there but at this point you couldn't care less. You couldn't be more grateful. One of the biggest hurdles you anticipated in this shrinking journey was getting yourself setup. Having a homebase will fill you with a sense of security as you continue on.

Your walk to the lighthouse was in good spirits. Though if a copy of yourself was here with you now, he would kick you for keeping your gaze straight ahead like an idiot instead of on a constant swivel looking out for threats.

However once again, fortune favored the foolish, and you soon made your way right up next to the lighthouse. It was a charming little thing. White with a red spiral. A mock window and door carved and painted in its surface, and a balcony circled the top where the "light beacon" was kept. Yes, this would do nicely. A little elbow grease and you could get this place whipped up into a fortress!

Speaking of, you better find your way inside.
You draw your machete from its holster, your happy demeanor vanishing into a stern look. Hacking your way in wasn't going to work. The walls are too thick for this puny splinter to poke at. Tunneling in was all you can do, and who knows if something has already had the same idea as you and taken up residence inside there.

You press your ear against the wall and listen.

Nothing. All's quiet. Good sign, but no guarantee.

Time's wasting, so you get started with shoveling dirt away from base with the blade of the machete. Progress goes slow now that every crumb of dirt feels like moving a rock but your efforts bear fruit in time. A small hole had been dug, big enough for you to squeeze through into the lighthouse.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Your intruding on an angry squatter

2. Nobody's home

*Noteb*
3. Turns out, this place isn't as secure as you thought

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
