Chapter #19

Trevorina! My old nemesis!

    by: Unknown
For the entire walk, your nerves were at the boiling point. Why,oh why, did your teeny little brain think this was a good idea!? Crossing an open patch of dirt, surrounded on all sides by thick grass that could be concealing god knows what, just so you can take the unnecessary risk on approaching a giant woman you really didn't know anything for certain about her character!? So what if she was an academic like you, or that you seemed to share interests in nature, or that whenever you looked at her you felt a sense of warmness and ease, or that she was absolutely stunning...

You drove your boot into the dirt, sending pebble sized grains of sand exploding out from the ground as they were kicked away.

"Dammit! Get your head straight you idiot!", you shouted to yourself, immediately regretting what you just did.

The moment after your little emotional outburst, you took notice of the sound a rustling withing the forest of grass far on your right. Whatever it was, it was fairly large; large enough to trample blades of grass under its weight. The telling sign that Trevorina had come back once again for her mortal enemy. Quickly, blades of grass split from each other as Trevorina breaches from their ranks and repeats the same old song and dance from the many times before; a high chattering sound and a mad dash towards you. It was routine at this point, but that hardly made it any easier to defend yourself against her in a drawn out fight. You had to give it to the beast, she was quite the unpredictable fighter once she got blood thirsty enough in the heat of battle! You unsheathe your spear and ready yourself for her first attack, which always came as a frenzy of gnashing fangs as she attempted to take a bite out of you! A quick duck and roll to her side, leaves her exposed for you to ram your spear into her side, leaving a fresh new scar to join its twins on her body. The proud monster squeals in pain, as it raises its legs into the air and brings them down with enough force to skewer you. You push yourself out of the way of each strike, before quickly transitioning back on your feet and begin batting the attacks aside with your spear! It performs its spider version of rearing in an attempt to intimidate and you answer with a stance that would impress a novice ancient Spartan. You both exchange roars of fury before the next wave of attacks begin!

Tara rolled the sleeves of her shirt up with a sigh, and checked the time on her para-cord watch.

8:25 PM

Soon enough that sun was going to be heading out for the night and leaving this place in darkness... not to mention chilly. It was getting to the point where Tara would be inclined to follow its lead and head to bed herself. She did have a schedule to keep after all, and that included getting up early in the morning to take photo's of the plant life covered in the glistening morning dew, and get other menial tasks out of the way before conducting more research for her paper. She closed her book and tossed it behind her into her tent. For the next few minutes, her full focus was going to be keeping an eye out for her little friend. She leaned back into her chair, arms crossed over her chest, and a determined look on her face as she squinted her eyes down at the ground ahead of her and slowly scanned for any sign of movement. It didn't take long before a familiar scene came into her view. A barren patch of dirt, devoid of any grass or fauna of any kind, was serving as the battleground for a deathmatch between two shapes that she couldn't discern at this distance, but had detected a hint of familiarity at them.

Tara's eyes widened with joyful hope as she leaned in closer from her chair, before rising up and taking two gentle steps towards the action below her.
