Chapter #6

One step ahead

    by: AJQ45 Author IconMail Icon
Falling with too much speed to survive a landing on the ground, you angle yourself to land on a discarded dirty sock on the floor by Cody’s bed.Praying that the sock is soft enough to break your fall, you close your eyes right before impacting the discolored white sock.

Opening your eyes, all you see and hear is darkness and silence.before you could ask yourself if you died,a pungent smell invaded your nose.Recoiling in on yourself, you flipped over and realized that you had survived and had landed safely on the sock.Looking at the ground under you,you saw that you where laying on the dirty imprint of Cody’s little toe.You must be roughly the size of an ant right now.Hearing the bedroom door open, you could see Cody struggle not to spill the overfilled glass of milk in his hands as he kicked the door open and walks into the room

Realizing that you’re standing between his oblivious feet and the bed,you begin scrambling across the uneven and odorous surface of the dirty sock.
——-
Casually making his way to the bed,Cody paused before he sat down on the soft superhero themed blankets.Looking at his glass of milk threatening to spill at the first sudden movement,Cody turned on his heels and walked towards his nightstand to place the glass down.It wasn’t until he moved to sit on his bed that he felt a strange tickle on his foot.

Looking down,Cody saw his dirty socks sticking to his still sweaty feet. The feeling of dust and dried sweat rubbing together grossed him out and he quickly shook his foot to throw off the sock.Kicking the sock straight into the door,he turned his foot over to see his sole.Along the underside of his clammy, red sole were the usual specks of dust and crumbs that his feet had collected while he walked around his house barefoot. One thing stood out among the grime on his dirty foot however.A tiny red smear was staining the ball of his right foot.

“I wonder what kind of bug that was.” Shrugging his shoulders,Cody hopped on his bed and began munching on his peanut butter toast while wondering what to watch on TV later, the memory of the bug he’d flattened never entering his mind again.
