You woke up slowly, first hearing the 'beep' 'beep' of the monitoring machines and then the relieved sigh of your younger sister, Kelly. You moaned, slowly opening your eyes to see that Kelly had been crying. She managed a weak smile upon catching your eye.
"What happened?" Still groggy, you demanded. "Where am I?"
"There was a gas explosion near the restaurant you took me for my thirteenth birthday." Gently, Kelly explained. "You are in the hospital where the doctors fixed you up."
"How bad is it?" Worried, you asked.
You tried to sit up but Kelly pushed you down, shaking her head. She winced catching your questioning look. "The doctors tried an experimental procedure on you; dad signed off on it." Softly, Kelly explained. "It used nanites, single celled machines to literally rebuild your body." She teared up, any other method and you would not be here."
"What...?!" Startled, you asked.
"The nanites did a great job fixing your body but there was a glitch." She winced. "You might want to prepare yourself for a shock."
