"What? Is that book some sort of antique? Mel must have had it" you said.
Mom gave a slight smile, which hid her panic. "Yes. I don't know how you got it as I normally have it locked away. I need it back as soon as possible."
While you felt it was odd that mom wanted such an old book with such urgency, you agreed to her request. "It's in my room. On my desk. Shall I go get it?"
"No! Err, I think its best if I get it, son" mom said, blushing as she walked out of the room. You stared at her receding figure and shook your head. Weird.
The first person mom bumped into after she regained the book was Hayley. She stared, puzzled with mom's urgent motions until she saw that mom was holding the book under her arm.
"Mom. Is that the magic book?! You can't have it out in the open! What if John sees it? Or Hannah?" Hayley gasped.
"It's too late. John has already seen it and has read it. Fortunately for him, it hasn't affected him, yet, but...." mom trailed.
"It's only a matter of time before something does happen. Ideas?" Hayley asked.
"Get Melanie, and tell her not to be so careless. John said that he got the book from her" mom said crossly. "Once that is done, I want you to show Hannah."
"Show Hannah? The issue is John" Hayley protested.
"Yes. Hannah would be a safer gauge for a reaction" mom said.
"Are you sure, mom? She isn't ready" Hayley said.
