The next morning

    by: SkylerHusky Author IconMail Icon
You wake up and see it was a little after dawn outside, you look over and see the little wolf was still asleep. You get up as quietly as possible and start packing any gear from last night, just as you zip you bag closed the wolf awakes from his sleep and looks at you, "morning " you say to him. He hands the scarf back to you, "you can keep it" you say, he gives you a small smile and then drapes it around his neck like you, You retrieve your jacket and put it back on. "Lets get you home" you say the two of you gather up any water and food and walk out the door, you use your map and compass to navigate to the mountains.

After walking for over three hours in te desert sun you finally reach the mountain, you take the little wolf off your shoulder, "ok where now?" you ask him. He looks around for a minute and points to a small cave opening about a quarter a mile away from you, "you sure?' you ask, he nods making the boonie hat you gave him shake wildly. "Ok lets go" you say as the two of you head towards the cave, after walking for close to half an hour you make it to the cave, "wait here" you say to the wolf. You pull out your flashlight and walk in with your rifle slung and sidearm holstered, "hello? is anyone here?" you yell into the cave, no answer.

You walk back outside, "I don't think anyone is here little guy" you say to the wolf, as you stand and turn around you get tackled by something big and heavy. You find yourself on the sandy ground looking up at a tall, male, gray wolf with his teeth barred and growling at you, "trying to kidnap a child are you?...well I know what to do to people like you" says the male as he raises a clawed hand. "You've got it all wrong" you say, "do I?" says the wolf, he prepares to swipe at you with his paw, suddenly the little wolf ran over and wrapped his arms around your neck as if to protect you. "What is wrong with you child, defending this coward" says the tall wolf.

"Will you give me a minute to explain, I'm not here to kidnap him, I'm here to bring him back home" you tell the wolf. "Show me the child's face, then I'll know if you are lying or not" he says, slowly you remove the hat from the little wolf and show his face to the adult wolf. You see on his face that he recognizes the child and his claws retract, "stay here" he says, he walks into the cave leaving you laying on the sandy ground, minutes later he returns with a female wolf behind him. The little wolf lets go of you and runs over to the female wolf who hugs the little wolf tightly, "it seems you were telling the truth" says the male wolf.

The female wolf walks over to you, "thank you for bringing him back home to me" she says with tears of joy streaming down her face, "You're injured?" she asks noticing your makeshift splint on your leg, "I don't think its serious, I'll be ok" you tell her as you get to your feet, "nonsense you will stay with us until that leg is healed" she says. You follow her back to the cave and inside you see at least eight other wolves standing there, each one had the same look on their face that said what they thought about you.......

You have the following choices:

1. They were smiling..they trust you

*Noteb*
2. They were looking at you nervously..they don't seem to trust you

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
