The family already seemed to think that Jessica was a child rather than the adult she really was so Jessica decided to go ahead and let them continue thinking just that. She knew it would be hard to convince them otherwise anyway.
"My name is... Jessie," she told Patricia mentally grimacing at giving out the childish name she tried her hardest to avoid being called. Then thinking quickly she tried to come up with a plausible explanation as to why she was in this public park completely naked that wouldn't get her in more trouble. Finally after saying "uhh" and "ummm" more than enough to make her sound like she was retarded she blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
"I came here alone to... feed the ducks... but I slipped and fell in the water and lost my clothes. We just moved to town and my parents are at work right now. I don't know their numbers...". It wasn't the most clever thing she could have said, but standing there naked, surrounded by strangers demanding answers, it was the best she could come up with.
Fortunately they seemed to buy it. "Well you were very lucky, young lady, you could have easily drowned," Patricia told her "But if you're parents aren't home right now we can't really just let you just go home."
"That's right," the husband Gregory agreed "You'll have to stay with us until your parents get home. And when they do return I'd like to have a word with them about leaving you home alone unsupervised."
Jessica didn't like this turn of events, but could tell from the look in this couple's eyes that they weren't about to let someone they believed to be a child just run around unsupervised, especially after she just admitted she had somehow fallen into a lake and lost all her clothes while feeding ducks of all things. All she could manage to say was, "Okay".
"Good, now let's find you something to wear shall we? We can't really have you running around in your birthday suit now can we?" Patricia said as if noticing for the first time that Jessica was naked which caused Jessica to blush all the way down to her toes. "Now what do we have?" she then pondered aloud as she looked around their little picnic area.
Picking up a few cast off garments she handed them to Jessica. "Here you are, you can wear these for now."
Looking down at what she had been given Jessica tried to smile and appear grateful but she couldn't help but feel a bit dismayed as she realized what she had been given was...
