This choice: you see your sister sitting at your bedside. • Go Back...Chapter #6you see your sister sitting at your bedside. by: Unknown As you open your eyes your vision is still a bit blurry as you look around. You can remember that weird dream you had, the one about those two crazy doctors telling you and your family (minus your little brother) switched bodies. And the weirdest thing was that the doctor told you, you were inside your father's body and he in yours. What a joke that was.
You look at your bedside to find a figure with long blond hair, bound together in a ponytail, wearing a green hospital gown. As your vision gets clearer, you think it must be your mother.
"Mom?" You croak. You feel instantly relieved to find her sitting there, knowing it must have been a bad dream all along.
"Think again Timo." Your mother says in a sarcastic manner. The way your mother says it, triggers something in your brain. Your mother wouldn't call you Timo. Timo is something she would say...."
"Tabitha is that you?" You ask carefully. You get the feeling you know the answer already, but you still yearn to hear it to be sure.
Tabitha nods at the question. "In the flesh or something like that." This definitely confirms that it wasn't a dream, and that you really are inside your father's body.
You and Tabitha talk about the accident. It seems everyone is alright and up and running it seems. You were the last one to wake up. By chance your parents already visited you and when Tabitha came inside to check on you, you were beginning to wake up.
"So, what do you think about this?" You ask Tabitha referring to your parents their bodies.
"It sucks, it really does. But I think we should be glad though to be alive. We all could have ended up there." She says nudging to the ceiling.
"I know, but what about our lives?" You were pretty happy with your life, you had a best friend, amazing girlfriend, average grades. All of those were gone in a few hours. How weird it would be to suddenly hang out with Randall, or make out with Allison looking like your father.
You notice your sister looks uncomfortable all of a sudden. She tells you that due to the experimental nature of the transplant procedure, as well as the fact that it wasn't entirely legal, that nobody else, other than the seven of you, could ever find out what had transpired. There apparently being too many legal, ethical and moral implications to the transplant that would not be simply overlooked. Not to mention the fact that the four of you would be forever hounded by the media if any word of this ever got out. Meaning, that as far as anyone else was aware, your family had been involved in a minor car accident and had quickly recovered. That was the end of it. You, for all intensive purposes, were now your father; Mr. Donald Connors, and he would have to be you. The same also applying for Tabitha and your mother. This naturally coming as somewhat of a shock.
"You're serious?" You ask Tabitha shocked at this revealing.
"Pinkie swear." Tabitha tells you as she holds up her pinkie. If Tabitha would pinkie swear you knew it had to be true.
"We all have to act like each other. Except for David of course, lucky guy." Tabitha pouts with her arms crossed over her chest, emphasizing it. David was the only lucky one, who didn't have to spend the rest of his life inside someone else his body.
"The doctors told us though that we can access deep memories from our bodies. You know, you working dad's job and me cleaning and cooking." Tabitha says all matter of fact.
"And that's supposed to be good news? We're trapped in our parents their bodies, we have lost everything we once had and you think this is some kind of game? We're stuck like this forever Tab!" You shout out raising your fist.
"Tim, shut up." Tabitha says angry. She stands up from the chair she was sitting on, holding her hands at her sides, looking exactly like your mother when she's angry.
"I know you're mad about it and so am I. But we have no choice. You think I like it that I'm inside mom's body, being a mom at my age." Tabitha looks like she's about to cry, but she keeps her tears inside as she grabs your hand. "No, I hate it. I really hate it, but we're alive Tim. All of us. We're a family Tim, together we can do this."
Your sister speech amazes you. You realize all of a sudden that the impact of the swap has the same impact on her as on you. The only difference is that she always tries to look at the positive side. You hold her hand in your hand, feeling a calmness spreading through your body.
"I'm sorry sis, guess I'm acting like an old geezer already." You say smiling.
"You're not the only one around here." Tabitha says also giving a little smile. You then realize you're still holding her hand and quickly let go. Tabitha seems to be embarrassed about it also, holding her hand in her other hand.
"So what are we going to do now?" You ask Tabitha to break the silence.
"I don't know, I guess they want to keep us here for a few more days for observation. Just to make sure we're alright." Tabitha adds seeing the uncomfortable look on your face.
"That's good." You tell Tabitha who nods holding her arms behind her back wiggling back and forth as she usually would do. "I guess I'll get back to my own room now. The doctors should be here soon to check up on you."
"Thanks Tabitha, for checking up on me, and you know cheering me up." You tell her before she leaves the room.
"You're welcome, Timo." Tabitha says looking at you again before slipping out of the room.
You were now left alone in the room with only your thoughts. This was weird, not only for you, but for your whole family. Your mom and dad inside your bodies, you in your father's body and Tabitha in your mother's body. You look down at your broad chest, the hair on your arms and your feet touching the other side of the bed. This was going to be a weird life. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
