Michel walked across the street feeling depressed. He just came back from the military recruit center. The lieutenant in charge of the center said the young eagle was in no shape to be in the army because he was too small. Michel wouldn't last a second on the battlefield according to the strict soldier. The eagle didn't know what else to say or do except leave.
Michel made his feathers droop. Ever since his father told him stories of being in the military, Michel always wanted to be a soldier. He studied hard and worked out as hard as he could. For some reason, he couldn't see any results. Michel trained for a very long time and could not get his muscles in the big strong shape he needed to be a soldier. He didn't know what was wrong.
Michel then stopped in front of a tattoo shop. He made an appointment to get a tattoo for his arms as a reward for getting into the military forces, but now that he wasn't going to be, he wasn't sure if he still wanted the tattoos. Michel reconsidered thinking the tattoos would make him tougher and give him motivation to train even harder, so the young eagle went inside.
As the eagle went inside, Michel could hear the buzzing of needles in all corners of the room. He was greeted by a lean hyena.
"Can I help you?" asked the hyena.
"Y..yeah, I have an appointment. Name's Michel."
The hyena went through the computer at the front desk and found Michel's name. He then said, "Alright. Right this way, please." The hyena led Michel to the back where he took a seat right next to the hyena, who appeared to be his tattoo artist.
"So what'll it be today?" asked the hyena.
"Well," started Michel, "I was thinking some type of band around my arms, like something that stretches over and under my biceps."
"Sure, no problem," said the hyena. "What kind of band do you want?"
"Well, I always liked griffins. How about griffins that go down my biceps and their wings go around them?"
The hyena's ears perked and his eyes widened. "That sounds pretty cool! I like it! Let's do it!"
Before the needle began to buzz, Michel braces himself for the pain. He knew that getting tattoos was never easy. Once the needle hit underneath his feathers, Michel grunted slightly and waited patiently for the pain to stop, even though it wouldn't for quite a while.
After about an hour, the needle finally stopped. "All done," said the hyena. "What do you think?" Michel raised his arms and widened his eyes. He saw majestic mythical creatures laying peacefully on his arms. As he rolled his biceps, Michel could see the creatures' wings stretch all around them. The griffins on his arms looked brave and powerful, qualities that Michel envied. With all the incredible details, the griffins looked like they were almost alive.
"These looks great!" said Michel. "I love them! Thank you so much!" Michel went back up front, payed at the front desk and left the tattoo shop. Even though he didn't get into the military, somehow, Michel thought, with his tattoos, things were going to get better.
