Brandon wasn't always the most avid comic reader, but there were plenty of comics of a different kind he occasionally liked. Webcomics, a new and growing medium of comics displayed on the internet! With the availability of all of technology at their disposal, people had begun drawing digital comics and posting them on the web. These usually had higher themes and artwork than the usual variety of comics, for example the page size, 'canvas' and restrictions that might limit an artist on paper no longer existed. Some of them were even done with animations or fancy web tricks!
Brandon had read quite a lot in his day. He was an avid reader of old sprite comics, like 8 bit Theater. There were countless slapstick comics, and plenty about videogames, such as VGcats, Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and Penny Arcade. Of course those were gag strips, not ones built for story or character.
Some of the more popular ones filled that niche however. Like the infamous MSPaint Adventures, which detailed the adventures of both Detective explores Sleuthing Problems, and the nefarious Homestuck, which told a a very long Scifi fantasy epic. It had so many characters, from aliens to jackals and goths and robots and everything inbetween, I'd be an extravaganza to meet someone from there. There was also the bastard child of MSPA, Prequel which was about Katia Managan, a khajiit (talking cat person) trying to start a new life, while facing mystery, magic and tragedy. Based on the Elderscrolls videogame series, Brandon thought it would be truly novel to be able to talk to Katia, and all her hard struggles and adventures.
The webcomic 'Lackadaisy' was also about walking talking cats, slick in their vest and cloaks as they performed high felons in a 20's era Prohibition romp ride.
And than there was Gunnerkrigg Court, the story of Antimony Carver and her days in a magical school, full of paranatural and stupendous adventure. As a Spiritual medium between her school's technologically advanced court, and the spiritually, magically inclined forested woods, she was a literary wonder-child. Being intelligent, patient and crafty, explorative and with quite a few stories of her own, the young redheaded girl always attracted ghosts, gods, spirits, and other beings. Just talking to her would be a goldmine, if the ring could really summon anybody.
