Barbara clutched her head as she woke up and sat up in bed. She didn't recall getting into bed and taking a nap. The last thing she remembered was helping the Justice League with their recent fight. At one point in her life, she would have assisted them on the front lines but after getting shot by the Joker, Barbara became wheelchair-bound but continued to serve Batman as Oracle. Operating behind the scenes to provide him with intel and battle strategies. She was in the middle of contacting Bruce when there was a flash of light and then she lost consciousness.
As she came to, Barbara realized that she didn't recognize the room she was in at all. She was no longer in her hideout but rather a hospital room from the looks of it. One that desperately needed to open up a window. She hoped her father hadn't been informed because she wasn't sure how to explain to him how she got there. Barbara wondered why there was a tube sticking out of the wall and dangling next to her head when the door opened and a nurse entered the room.
Correction, the biggest nurse Barbara had ever laid eyes on.
Barbara knew better than to judge others based on superficial qualities but it was irregular for hospital staff to be as big as Bane if he were all blubber. Wearing turquoise scrubs that failed to completely cover her tummy or her rear, the dark-skinned nurse sported a protruding belly at least a ft and a half long with breasts that could put Power Girl to shame. Her thunder thighs rubbed together and her beach ball buns clapped together every other step. When she noticed Barbara was awake, she smiled and said, "Oh good! You're finally awake. How are you holding up, sweetie?"
"Me? I'm...I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" Barbara asked, failing to see the cause for relief. "How long was I out?"
"Hard to say. We only found you in the street four hours ago. You must be starving. Here," The nurse grabbed the tube and pressed a button on the wall. Instantly, a strange milky substance flowed into Barbara's mouth that tasted like bacon grease and mayonnaise. "Just sit and get your weight back to a normal size. I'll get the doctor and we'll figure out what happened to your weight. If you need anything, just buzz me or ask one of the nurses for Carla."
The nurse left Batgirl bewildered and guzzling on the goop. Once she was gone, Barbara removed the tube and hit the button on the wall. Stopping the flow completely. Barbara gagged on the sickening slop and then gasped when she saw the faintest of belly bumps forming on her midriff. How she grew in such a short amount of time baffled her.
The next thing she spotted was a nightstand beside her bed. There was a remote lying on top and next to that was a neighboring bed where a drawn curtain shrouded another patient. Judging by their silhouette, they were just as obese as the nurse. Rather than disturb them, Barbara took the remote and turned on the TV. Where a news broadcast happened to be airing.
"-no update on the missing shipment of exotic cheese," said the overweight newscaster. "Up next, another victim of the recent string of drainings by the insidious sticks." A photo of Barbara lying unconscious on the streets popped on the screen. "An unnamed young woman was found severely underweight and abandoned in the city streets. First responders were quick to send her to an undisclosed hospital where she can be fattened back to a suitable size."
The newscaster went on to interview a civilian but Barbara wasn't listening. She was still processing how they described her. Barbara refused to consider herself underweight. If anything, it seemed as though everyone else was overweight. As she thought that, Barbara realized how they came to that conclusion. However, it also made her wonder what was considered "a suitable amount of weight" and how big they intended to make her.
Barbara checked her pockets but couldn't find her wallet nor her phone. Which explained why the news didn't give out her name. Still, she had some explaining to do and no answers as of yet. If she was going to figure out what's going on, Barbara had to make a choice. She could either escape the hospital and do some sleuthing or she could stay put until she got some answers from the hospital staff.
