After a number of minutes with no sign of Linda, Tanya stood up and said "Well, it's been nearly half an hour, and Linda's not back yet. I guess somebody needs to go check on her, and it might as well be me."
Just as Tanya was about to open the door and walk out however, "We may not have heard from her, but we haven't heard her scream either, which she most likely would have if she'd been caught by the head hunter." I pointed out, adding "Besides, it's barely dark yet. We should give her a few more minutes, rather than all go charging off into the dark to all get picked off by the head hunter one by one. No, it's much safer for all of us if we just stay put for now."
"Not all of us. What about Linda? We can't just leave her out there!" Jane, ever the loyal one, objected.
"Yes, we can. We all told her not to go out there so close to dark, she knew what would happen, so whatever happens to her now is on her head." you argued.
Just then, you all heard a female scream from the direction of the lake. "That's it, I'm going!" Tanya said, flinging the door open and rushing off in the direction of the lake before anyone could stop her.
"What?! You idiot, you'll get yourself killed!" I screamed after her, but of course, no one was listening, as the next thing I heard was Jane yell "Hey, wait for me, attempting to rush out after her friend, but I was closer to Jane than I had been to Tanya, allowing me to grab her before she could rush go rushing off and wind up stumbling around in the dark with Tanya, another easy target for the head hunter.
"Jane, stop, you can't go out there! that's just what the head hunter wants!" I said, trying once more to reason with her, to no avail.
"Ramona, what if that was you out there? Would you want me to just leave you? I don't think so. I'm going!" Jane argued, breaking free from my grip, and attempting to shove past me and out the door, but I had one last argument left.
